Fender Design Challenge
Fender Design
AIM: - Design the front fender according to master section NX CAD
Introduction: -
Fender (vehicle) Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
Types of Fenders
Fenders are normally 2 types
- Full Bumper Type
- Half Bumper Type
Presently we are using the half bumper type fender, the reason for choosing the half bumper type is that when we choose the full bumper type the blank used for creating it is very large and also has the lot of wastage, But I have used the half bumper type fender then the required flange is less as compare to full bumper type so the material wastage is less than the manufacturing cost is also less as compare the full bumper type. When I have used the half bumper type fender then material is less required and the plastic part is more required so the weight of the car body part is also less, weight is less than the performance of the vehicle is increase and the main purpose is to reduce the weight of the part with respect to the all-safety norms and design consideration.

Design of Fender

- Drip Area
- Sill Area
- Bumper mount Area
- Pillar Mount Area
- Baffle Mounting Area
Design the drip mount area
Drip mount area is the very important area in the fender. It is mounting unit of the fender it is connected with the engine compartment,
For design the fender drip area a lot of design constrain are to be followed.
While design the drip area we have to initially leave the at least 200mm gape for cowl top.
For placing the headlamp, we have to leave the min. 150 mm at the front while designing the fender.
When design the fender then some angles are also important. For design embosses part then give at least 3 deg. Angle so the manufacturing is easy and this is also a design consideration.

Design of Sill Mounting Area
Sill is the panel directly below the bottom of the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine the floor and the body. In the sill mounted we made sure that we didn’t have any sharp corners and we provide relief to it.
The corner is flite by the curve on surface tool. Corner flite is very important in any type of design because the corner is not provide the relief then the stress consideration is not proper and the looking is not good of the product. Curve of Surface is also a very power full tool.

Design the Bumper mounting area
Bumper mounting area is used to fix the bumper to the fender with the help of the fasteners.

Design of A-Pillar Mounting Area
A-Pillar is the structural pillar that combines the body to the roof, this makes the sides of the windshield rest.

Design of Baffle Mounting Area
Baffle mounting or mudguard are clip fir type of mounting on the inner side of the fender arch over the tyre. It protects the car engine compartment and pedestrian from causing injuries from chip out debris on the road when the car is in motion.

Dart
Dart is provide when the flat sheet length is more and then sheet is bend so the dart is provided then the strength of the sheet is increase and in the vibration sheet is not bending with the help of dart.

Conclusion

We have successfully designed the front fender using the master sketching with the help of NXCAD software.
