Fender Design Challenge
REPORT
OBJECCTIVE:
The main obective of this project is to design a fender using NX-CAD design software.
INTRODUCTION:
Design of any products starts from the requirements. The design engineer sketches are the product based on the requirements. Then the 2D sketch with the required dimensions is converted in to 3D model using the CAD softwares. The another important thing in the design is that every single product that is designed should be able to manufacturable. so that the role of the design engineer is to design the product that can be easily manufactured and with less cost effective. This is place where the design for manufacturing and Design of assembly takes a responsiblity while developing any product. The process of developnment of the design carries on until the design satisfies the consumer needs. Here in this project the product that i am going to develop the car fender.
FENDER:
The main purpose of the fender is to prevent sand, mud, rocks , liquids and another road spray from being thrown into the air in the atomsphere by the rotating tire.
TYPES OF FENDERS:
1.Full bumper type
This is a conventional type used in fender and This fender corvers almost 75 percentage.
2.Half bumper type
This type of bumper mostly helps in reducing the weight of fender at the same time it is improves a lot for saftey of the predestrain moving.
Assembly:
There are two types of assembly and they are.
1.Bottom-up assembly
2.Top-down assembly
Bottom-up assembly:The bottom-up assembly is the most preferred approach for the assembly model. In this type of assembly the components are created in part design work bench file. parts are conceived in assembly design workbencch using product structure tools. After inserting each component, constraints are applied to position them properly in 3d space wit respect to the other components. This assembly is preferred for large assemblies, importantly those having intricate individual components.
Top-down assembly: In the top assembly design approach, components are created inside the assembly design workbench. Therefore there is no need to create separate part files of the parts. This design approach is compeletily different from the bottom up design approachs. Here you have to create the product file first and then one by one create all the parts. Note that even then the parts are created an product file, they are saved and opened individually one by one when they are need. Here the construction and the assembly takes place simultaneously.
MOUNTING REGIONS OF FENDER:

There are 5 mounting regions on the fender, they are
1. A-piller mounting
2. Body mounting
3. sill mounting
4. Bumper mounting
5. Drip mounting
DESIGN METHODOLOGY:
Given data:

MASTER SECTION
Design Of Drip Area mounting:
1.It is the most important mounting unit of the fender. it is connected with the engine compartment therefore the lot design constraints are to be followed while designing the fender.
2.While designing the drip we have to initally leave 200 to 300mm for the crawl top.
3. For placing the headlamp we have to leave atleast 150mm at the front while designing the fender.
4. Crowl top part consists wiper and its instrunments.

5.Two darts are added on the longer side of the drip area in order to give the stifness and adds strength to the part. This helps the fender to not to vibrate and impact forces outside of the fender during motion of vechicle.
6.Emboss are provided on the mounting to strengthen them during fastening.
Design of sill mounting area:
Sill is the panel direcly below the bottom of the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine the floor and body . The bottom end of fender is mounted on the sill body for reinforcment of the fender panel. Thus the sill mounting position is designed with the holes and embosses. M5 fasteners are used to fix the fenders on the sill area.

Design of bumper mounting area:
Bumper mounting are is used to fix the plastic bumper to the fender to the help of fasterners.

Design for A-Piller mounting Area:
The A-piller is the structural piller that combains the body to the roof. This make the sides of the windshield rest . front fender are fastened to the A-piller to form a structure.

Design of baffel mounting area:
Baffel mounting or mudguard are clip fit type of mounting on the inner side of the fender arch over the tyre. It protects the car engine compartment and pedestrains from causing injuries from chip out debrise on the road when the car in motion. They are mounted on the fender using a special type of locking clips which are made up of plastics.

THICKNESS:
The thickness of 0.75mm inwards on the final sewed surface of the fender to the sheet metals parameters.
CONCLUSION:
Final design of the fender is done with the help of Nx-cad software by following master section.
