Fender Design Challenge
FENDER DESIGN
Objective:
The aim of these projects is to design fenders and the main design requirements for Drip, Bumper, A-pillar, and Sill mounting areas.
Fender
A fender is a front outer side member of a car that covers the wheel side. Fender purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other particles. or
Fender is a closure component, closing the engine compartment and other compartments. The major role of the fender is to avoid chipping inside the engine compartment. During the motion, the wheel picks sand mud and small stone particles and throws it inside the car and these fenders will be helpful in preventing them by hitting inside the engine compartment and car body. These fenders will have a plastic part that lies on the wheel arch area. The fender plays a major role to avoid problems for pedestrians also. The fender is typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface. It is often also called a Mudguard.
Types offender:
- Full Bumper Type.
- Half Bumper Type.
Full Bumper type:
It is not used nowadays because they require a bigger size blank to produce the part and the large scrap is also produced.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS:

- As per the master, section provided the location of the drip should be at 150mm from the bumper side and the gap of 200mm from the A-pillar.

2. Check for the wheel arch radius and design of the fender outer by following the different regulations.
3. Allow the draft, which should be manufactured without an error,
4. The clearance distance should be maintained between the hood and the base drip area of about 200mm when the hood is at an open angle.
5. Clearance should be provided for the nutting tool to assemble the fender with the body of the car.
Procedure:
- Creating the sections:
- Creating the Mount part:
- Creating the embosses and relief:
- Giving the Fillets:
- Creating the Solid:
Result:
The fender model is created with a thickness of 1mm with the given mounts and embosses.
Final Model:

Drip Mount:

Sill Mount:

Bumper Mount:

Cowl Mount:

A-Pillar Mount:

CONCLUSION:
The fender of the automobile is checked for the wheel arch radius as per Europen regulations and designed the front half fender of a car by following the pedestrian's safety and in order to guard the engine compartment and beside the vehicle.
