AUTOMOBILE FENDER DESIGN

Fender is the most crucial part in an automobile that cover the side region of the engine compartment. The fender protects the engine from the dust and stones chipping from the wheel by holding on to 5 different locations in the car, they are

Sill area

A pillar area

Bumper mount area

wheel arch mount area

The fender size plays a major role in cost of manufacturing that effects the price of the car. there are majorly two types of fender sizes, they are

  • Full Bumper type
  • Half Bumper type

The full Bumper type fenders cover the fender region as well as bumper region of the wheel. They occupie the whole side part of the engine and takes more material compred to half bumper type. this leads in high production price with more material wastage on aa sheet to cut.

The full bumper type

This covers the fender as well as bumper for a car and only one piece can be cut in a sheet, lot of material is wasted.

Half Bumper type

As shown in the figure half bumper type can be sut as twon in a sheet so the cost of prodution reduces and the price varies.

A half bumper modeel fender has veen designed with all the mounting areas

Sill mounting area

This sill mount area is placed under the body and gets suppoerted from underpart of the body

Drip Area

Drip mount area is near the engien where the mount araea should be 200mm from the upperr edge of the hood and 150 mm from the lower edge of the hood.

A pillar area

The A pillar area mount is the mount through which the fender gets attached to the ORVM part of the car.

Bumper mount area

As the fender model is half bumper type the bumper mounting is required to get attached to the bumper.
