Fender Design Challenge
Title : Fender design
Objective :
To design front fender from given skin data and create mounting points for Drip area, A-Piller, Bumper, sill area and baffel mountings.
Fender:

Fender is a front part of a car which covers the wheel. The main purpose of the fender is to stop the mud, water, slag to enter in to engine compartment and to protect the pedestrians, during motion car wheel picks mud and small rocks particals which may danger for people on roads, fender will stop them hitting.
Fenders are two types
- Full bumper type
- half bumper type

Full bumper type:
This type of fenders are not used now a days they require more material and moer is scrap produced also they are heavy.
Half bumper type:
This type of fenders are used in presernt cars to reduce the weight, reducing weight means increasing the performance. we can produce 2 blanks from single blank size compare to full bumper type fenders.
Benifits of Fender:
- Gives luxary look to the car.
- limits the exposure of car body and engine components.
- car fenders provides safety to driver and passengers at the time of accidents.
- fenders are designed aerodynamic to avoid air resistance.
- fenders are designed to reduce the NVH comming from the engine compartment.
Areas to be considerd while designing a Fender:
- Drip area
- bumper mounting area
- A-piller mounting area
- sill area
- baffel mountings
Drip area:

It is the area where the fender is attached to the engine compartment with fasteners, Their are some considerations to design a fender drip mounting area. The distance of drip area is taken from to places that is 200mm from a-piller and for the fenders head light area 150mm, The drip area lies between this measurements
Taking above constrains we have to design fender drip area.
To design drip area taking skin data start designing drip area. First create a offset curve from skin data and create a plane with an offset of 200mm from back end, create a plane with an offset of 150mm from front end. Then take both intersection points create drip area.
From the outside fender and hood has gap between them, so consumer my look in to the gap he should not see any parts of car, in that way the fender should be designed. from the top of the fender the initial angle 3 degrees and 9mm length. the depth of the drip area is to be between 40 to 60 mm in length.
A-Piller area:

A-piller is on either sides of the cars windshield.
It is mounted on A-piller by fasteners and covred by outer side view mirrors.
On A-piller mounting the proper embossing is provided along with hole for fasteners.
To create A-piller mounting using law extension command create a flange of length 50mm and 90 degree angle, create sketch for emboss and holes, finally blend the edges.
Sill mounting area:

The sill mounting area is bottom of the fender
Here emboss and holes are provided for fasteners
To create sill mounting extend the sheet for 15mm and create sktches for emboss and holes the trim the edges.
Bumper mounting area:

In this area bumper is mounted.
To create bumper mounting use law extension create a flange of length 20mm at an angle of 90 degrees and create a sketch for emboss and holes for fasteners.
Baffel area:

Baffel is a plastic part wraped inside the fender to protect it from corrosion.
To mount this baffel to the fender baffel mounts are created.

Conclusion:
In this project designed and developoed Drip, sill, bumper, A-piller and baffel moumtings areas for fender design requirments.
