Fender Design Challenge
FENDER DESIGN
AIM
The aim of this design is to create a Front Fender from the given Class A surfacing with Drip area, Cowl mount, Sil mount and A-Pillar mount.
INTRODUCTION
- The fender is the metal structure that extends between your front door and your front bumper, providing necessary protection for your front wheels.
- Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside).
- Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
- Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.
- Wheel wells tend to be much larger than the diameter of the tire, because they do not move with the suspension and consequently must be large enough to allow the full range of the suspension without touching the interior of the wheel well.

MOUNTINGS
The front fender is mounted on 5 areas to provide necessary protection to the vehicle. These mounting areas connect other parts of the vehicle as well. The mountings areas are:
- Drip area mounting
- Sil mounting
- A-pillar mounting
- Bumper mounting
- Splash/ Baffle mounting

DRIP AREA MOUNTING
- It is the most important mounting area of the fender. It is connected with the engine compartment and therefore a lot of design constraints are to be followed during the design of drip area mounting.
- It should have enough area from the front and read end of the fender to accomadate the Cowl mounting region and the headlamp housing unit as shown in figure

- The drip area mouting design has a lot to be considered before designing like the Tool workability, aesthetics, Sprigback effect etc.

SIL MOUNTING

A-PILLAR MOUTING

BUMPER MOUNTING

SPLASH/ BAFFLE MOUNTING

CONCLUSION
Thus the Drip area, Sil area, Bumper mounting, A-pillar mounting and the Baffle mounting for the given Class-A surface was designed.
