Challenge

Fender Design Challenge

Objective: To design the Drip area, Sill Mount, A- Pillar Mount, Bumper Mount and baffle area for the given master section.

Given data:

Theory:

Fender: Fender is the part of an automobile that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and otherroad spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.

Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle, So the inclusion of fenders is necessary.

Types of Fenders in Automobiles-

  • Full Bumper type
  • Half Bumper type

Methodology:

  • The designated sketches were created to form the emobosses
  • Reliefs were given to the geometry
  • Required blends were given (Face and Edge)
  • All the features were sewed and a thickness of 0.75mm was given
  • Finallly Dart was added to strengthen that features

1) Bumper Mount:

2) Drip Area:

3) Baffle area:

4) Sill Mount:

5) A- Pillar:

6) Final skectches:

Material for fender: Aluminium

Material for side light: Glass orange

Conclusion: All the criteria were considered to design the individual features and hence the model was completed.
