FENDER DESIIGN

OBJECTIVE:

To design the Sill Mount , Bumper mount , A-piller mount on own design accroding to the standard that learned in vedio sessions.

FENDER:

Fender is the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.

Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.

  • Fender is the US English term for the part of an automobile (vehicle body) that frames a wheel well (the fender underside).
  • Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
  • When vehicle is moving, tyres pick up stones and others and hurl them in all directions. Fenders are basically present to prevent any injuries to IEclestrians and contain the motion of these particles
  • More elaborate designs include fender skirts for enclosing the outside edge of the wheel well, and stylized pontoon fenders

Types of Fender

  • Full Bumper type
  • Half Bumper type

FULL BUMPER TYPE:

In full bumper type ,the wheel arch area is more and the fender covers the half of the wheel. This will increase in material cost and also add weight to the car.The main obective while design a car is to reduce the weight wherever ppossible.

HALF BUMPER TYPE:

Half bumper types are used in new generation vehicle to reduce the weight , material and also cost of the vehicle. Here the scrap can be saved during material stamping or cutting process by using the half bumper type.

MOUNTINGS:

  • Bumper
  • sill
  • cowel
  • drip
  • A-piller

MASTER SECTION:

DRIP MOUNTING:

  1. It is the area through which the fender is attached to the engine housing through fastners.
  2. There should be some considerations followed to ddesign the drip area of the fender.
  3. From back side of front fender there should be 200mm clwarence for cowel(wiper moter) mounting area.
  4. From front side of front fender ,there willl be a clearence of 150mm for head lamp housing unit.
  5. Remaining area we can use to design a drip area.
  6. Height of fender can be minimum 80mm for child and adult (94mm,WAD 1700MAX ,this +14 for increase in inertial force due to accident)impact.
  7. Parting will minimum 5 not more than 50mm from SRL( a rreference line on hood side,a point on fender makes from a line of 45 degree from ground level).
  8. Drip area will not reach the engine assembly due to restriction of 40mm length ,so there will some L-shaped Bracket to connect with it.

SILL MOUNTING:

The mounting area at the panel (metal plate) directky below the bottom of the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine floor and the body.

BUMPER MOUNTING:

A mounting area of fender to bumper (horizontal bar of a motor vehicle to reduce damage in a collision).

A-PILLER MOUNTING:

There are three types of pillers when refering to the design of the car - A,B, and C .

  • The A-piller on your car hold either side of the front windscreen in place. They are the ones you see as you look stright at the car from the front.
  • B-piller starts where the driver and passenger -side windows end as you look backward along the length of the car.
  • C-piller holds the sides of the car's rear window in place.
  • Some cars also have a D piller such as estate cars for example.D piller holds the sides of the window of the car in place and can also sometimes serve as housing for the rear lights like indicators ,breakes and alike.

BAFFLE MOUNTING:

When vehicle is moving , tyre is picup some stones and others and hurl them in all directions. There is chance that those stones may tend to hit the inner parts of the car like engine, battery and it amy also hit the pedestrians on the road .To avoid this baffle is used to divert downwards instead inside the car and to pedestrians.

FENDER DESIGN IMAGE:

CONCLUSION:

So , the design of Sill Mount , Bumper mount , A-piller mount are done accroding to the standard that learned in vedio sessions.
