Fender Design
Fender: -
· Fender is the US English term for the part of an automobile (vehicle body), that frames a wheel well (the fender outer side).
· The primary purpose of the fender is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids and other road sprays from being thrown into the air by the rotating tyre.
· While the vehicles are in motion the fender can prevent the injuries of the pedestrians.
And in other words, we can say the fender is also a side closing component to the engine compartment. And the major role is to avoid chipping inside the engine compartment.
Fender Mounting Regions: -
The fender can be mounted at 5 different regions. These are,
1. Body
2. A-Pillar
3. Sill
4. Cowl
· t’s a plastic part which is mounted with wiper motor and its components.5. Drip
5. Drip
· This is the engine compartment area placed by the fasteners.
Design considerations: -
Drip area
· The joining between from the fender to the engine compartment is called drip area. To design the fender a lot of drip area constrains has to be followed.
· When we start fender design, we need to start with drip area, and it’s located at rear side fender and its carried cowl and wiper motors and its components. Master section of a fender to develop drip area
Master section of a fender to develop drip area
· Firstly, to create a drip area we need to give 200 mm distance for the A-pillar mounting from rear side the fender, and from the front side head lamp will be placed due to this reason give the 150 mm distance for clearance purpose. Remaining will be the fender drip area which can be used to place the engine compartment.
