Fender Design

AIM

Designing fender following the design requirements for drip area, bumper, A pillar, body and sill mounting area

FENDER

Fender is the outside member of a car covering the wheel area. Its purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids and other particles

Types of fenders

  • Full bumper type: These types of fenders were used in earlier models of vehicles. They contribute to the major increment of the steel weight by just covering the front headlights with respect to the bumper region. The problem associated with this kind of fender is there is lot of wastage in the blank and every inch of a material is a cost to the industry
  • Half bumper type: These fenders are mainly used for serving the purpose of cost-cutting and reducing enough proportions of the steel resulting in a reduction of weight of the vehicle slightly. They can be economically manufactured, i.e., by slightly increasing the blank size, we can produce two fenders at a time

MOUNTING REGION ON FENDER

There are 5 mounting regions on the fender

  • A-pillar mounting
  • Body mounting
  • Sill mounting
  • Bumper mounting
  • Drip mounting

FENDER DESIGN

Master Section

Given fender surface

Mounting areas are designed based on the given parameters

The irregularities in the given input were fixed

After fixing

Embosses and screw holes are made in the mounting areas

Drip Mounting Area

A-pillar Mounting Area

Body Mounting Area

Sill Mount Area

Bumper Mounting Area

Baffle Area

Ater designing this the surface is offset by .75mm (Thickness of fender) and use Sweep and Trim to create a closed body

Then using Part Design this closed body is converted to a solid body

CONCLUSION

Designed mounting flanges in Drip area, Sill mount, Body mount, A-pillar and Bumper with given design parameters
