Fender Design

A REPORT ON FENDER DESIGN

INTRODUCTION

Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.

When vehicle is moving tires pick up stones and other and hurl them in all directions. Fenders are basically present to prevent any injuries to pedestrians and contain the motion of these particles .

Types of fender-

Full bumper type-

This type of bumper is used rarely in old cars because of its size. Now a days we use half bumper type instead of it.

Half bumper type-

Now a days mostly this type of bumpers are used because of it size, it reduce weight also it helpful for scrap management(production purpose)

Mountings of fender -

There are five mounting points in fender are follows

  • Body
  • A pillar
  • Sill
  • Cowl
  • Drip area

DESIGN CONSIDERATION –

Now while designing the fender we have to make sure that the amount of distance of the rear fender is 200 mm from the cow region where the wiper auxiliaries are installed so that there no hinderance while for the front fender there should be distance of 150 mm from the headlamp so that again there is no hinderance.

Drip area consideration=

Wheel arch consideration

Different countries follows different condition. We follows a European condition that’s having 10mm difference from tyre to outer fender.

FENDER DESIGN-

As per standard we design fender

Following are snaps of our fender design

1)A pillar-

Above fig shows a pillar mounting there is two holes for joining purpose.

2)Sill Mounting

Above fig shows sill mounting there is two holes for joining purpose.

3)Bumper Mounting-

4)Drip area -

5) For Splash or Baffle-
