Fender Design

Fender:-

It is an aesthetic part of the car that frames the wheels. The main purpose of fenders is to prevent sand, mud and other dirt from the road from being thrown into the engine compartment and also onto pedestrians due to the rotating tires. The front fenders are separate components, while the rear fenders are integrated with the sides of the body.

Fender are two types:-

i.Full Bumper

ii.Half Bumper

i.Full Bumper:-

These types of fenders were used on earlier vehicle models. They contribute to a significant increase in the weight of the steel by only covering the headlights with respect to the bumper area. The problem associated with this type of fender is that there is a lot of waste in the blank and every inch of material is a cost to the industry.

ii.Half Bumper:-

These fenders are mainly used to reduce costs and reduce the sufficient proportions of steel waiting, resulting in a slight reduction in vehicle weight. They can be produced economically, i.e. by slightly increasing the size of the blank, we can produce two fenders at once.

Desigen Consideration:-

The front fender basically has five mounting positions relative to the other components. The mounting positions are as follows:-

1.Drip Area Mounting

2.A- Pillar Mounting

3.Sill Mounting

4.Bumper mounting

5.Baffle Mounting

1.Drip Area Mounting:-

The drip area is the most important attachment in the fender, it is where the fender needs to be attached to the engine bay.

The drip area should be designed to be at least 150mm away from the front end of the fender to allow enough room for the headlight housing to be installed.

The drip area usually starts from 200 mm from the rear end of the fender to allow enough space for the cover that carries the wiper.

The length of the drip area depends on the length of the fender.

2.A- Pillar Mounting:-

This mounting position is designed to attach the fender to the vehicle's A-pillar.

The mount must be created by taking a reference from the vehicle's A-pillar.

Sufficient space should be left for easy installation of the wiper device.

3.Sill Mounting:-

A sill mount is formed on the lower part of the fender to attach to the sill.

4.Bumper mounting:-

This mounting point is made to attach the bumper to the fender. It should have enough strength to hold the bumper firmly.

5.Baffle Mounting:-

These mounting points are made to attach the plastic components, i.e. the bulkhead which prevents the break out inside the engine compartment.
