Fender Design
FENDER DESIGN
- Fender is the US English term for the part of an automobile (vehile body) that frames a wheel well (the fender underside).
- It's primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
- When vehile is moving tires pick up stones and others and hurl them is all direction. Fender are basically present to prevent any injuries to predestrains and contain the motion of these particles.
TYPES OF FENDER:
- Full bumper type
- Half bumper type
FULL BUMPER TYPE:
- The full bumper type fender was used in old cars, it covers the full area until the front lighting. But it has a lot of sheet metal material which is unnecessary and increases the weight of the fender. These type fenders are no longer used in the automobiles.

HALF BUMPER TYPE:
- Half fender type has been used by all the automobiles present now. It uses very little material as compared with the full fender type. Hence it is lightweight in construction, By reducing the weight, the inertia required to overcome the car will be reduced. Hence, eventually, engine performance will increase.

In this session we will learning in detail about the following mounts,
- Drip mount area
- A-piller mount area
- Sill mount area
- Bumper mounting area
- Baffle mounting area
DRIP MOUNT AREA:
It is the area through which the Fender is attached to engine housing through fasteners. There shold be some consideration followed to design the drip area, from back side of the fender there should be 200mm clearence for cowl mounting area and from the front there should be 150mm clearence for the head lamp housing unit.

A-PILLER AREA:
- A Piller is on the cars either side of the front windshield which is the reason the windshield in the place.
- It is Mounted on the A Pillar by means of fasteners and these are covered by outer side view mirrors.

SILL MOUNT AREA:
The Sill Mounting area is in the bottom of the fender.
It is mostely gets connected with the door region of the car.
Here, proper embossing and holes for the fasteners are provided.
The ribs are provided to improve the strength.

BUMPER MOUNT AREA:
In this Mounting, the Fender connects with the bumper.
The Bumper Mounting region must be rigid in order to withstand the force acting upon it during collision. So, the Mounting space can be larger.

BAFFLE AREA:
Creating holes for baffles.
Trim sheet feature is used to create holes of 5mm.

Conclusion:
Developed the Drip, Bumper, Sill, A pillar and Baffle mounting areas by design requirements of the fender design.
