Fender Design
Fender Design
Aim:
To Design Fender and the Sill, Bumper, Baffle (Splash), and A-Pillar mount create your own design according to the Engineering standard.

Fender:
Fender covers a wheel, traditionally to prevent water and mud spray, but, is also for Aerodynamic purposes. When the vehicle is moving tyre picks up stones & others and hurl them in all directions thus in order to prevent pedestrians from these stone’s fender are used.

Types of Fenders:
- Full bumper type
- Half bumper type
Full bumper type:
It covers more area & Consumes material compared to half bumper .Scrap material is more compared to the half bumper.

Half bumper type:
It covers less area & consumes less material. Single sheet can be used to produce more than one bumper.

WHEEL ARCH AREA DEPENDS UPON THE VARIOUS REGIONAL REGULAION
- European regulation.
- Japanese regulation.
- US regulation.
European regulation:
- The Clearance ‘L’ should be measured at sections SA-SA/ SB-SB/SC-SC/SD-SD & SE-SE and create a clearance check chart to validate.
- In all the five sections the value of L should be greater than 10mm to satisfy the European Regulations.
- Wheel guard requirement: The value of ‘a’ should be more than 5mm at line 30° forward and 50° rearwards from the central vertical axis of the wheel.

Japanese regulation:
- In Japanese regulation, the clearance ‘L’ for tire, hub, cap & fender is to be measured within area K and create a clearance check chart to validate.
- The value of L should be more excellent than 5.00 mm at all positions.
- Wheel guard requirement: The value of ‘a’ should be more than 5.00mm at line 30° forward & 50° rearwards from the central vertical axis of the wheel.

US regulation:
- In US regulation, the clearance ‘L’ is to be checked at all positions from -100° TO 100°. Degree divided into 100 & draw a line.
- The value of L should be greater than 5.00mm to satisfy the regulations.
- Wheel guard requirement: The value of ‘a’ should be more than 5.00mm at line 30° forward and 50° rearwards from the central vertical axis of the wheel.

Front Fender Design:
Fender is mounted on five important regions
- Drip Area
- Sill Mounting Area
- Bumper Mounting Area
- A-Pillar Mounting Area
- Baffle Mounting Area

- Drip Area:-
Drip area is the area at which the fender is connected to the engine Area through fastener’s. It is important mounting for fender there fore lot of design constraint’s are to be followed while designing the driparea. Clearance should be provided from the front & rear end of the fender to accommodate the cowl mountings & the headlamp housing unit respectively.

- Sill Mounting Area:-
It is the area at which bottom side of the fender is connected to the bottom part of the vehicle body. It is attached with the fastener’s. Fastener’s are used as they are covered by the car body so there is no impact on the aesthetics aspect of a car.

- Bumper Mounting Area:-
Bumper mounting area is provide to attach bumper to front fender. it located to the side of bumper. Fender is assembled first then bumper is attached by covering the bumper mounting area through fastener’s. Rib is provided on bumper mounting area to improve the structural strength.

- A Pillar Mounting Area:-
A Pillar is the foremost pillar of the car, the one that holds the windscreen. This mounting region is located near cowl which is a plastic area which accommodates the wiper motor & other instruments related to wiper. Fender is connected to the A Pillar through fastener’s.

- Baffle Mounting Area:-
Baffle is a plastic part which is mounted along the wheel arch area. Baffles are mounted on the fender using locking clips.
