Door Arm Rest Week 8 Challenge

Aim: Creation of door Arm Rest

Objective :

1. Creating of B & C surface

2. Creating Tooling Axis

3. Performing draft analysis on A surface and whole body with showing proper color code

A surface Check:

After receiving A surface as input we need to check if there is any gap between the surfaces so we perform join command to make sure all surfaces are joined together and merged.

Creating Tooling Axis:

Tooling Axis gives the direction of ejection of part from the mold. It should be at such a way that all surfaces should be at some draft so that there is no damage to part during ejection.

We first make a refernce point on part and create axis on that point

Now we create tooling clearance along X / Y direction using the intersection of planes with class A surface.
We intersect Class A surface with XY/YZ/ZX planes and create the reference lines on the surfaces which might face problem during tool ejection.

Following same approach we make tooling direction along X

With help of these two tooling directions in X & Y we make final tooling axis which clear most of Class A surfaces which we will name as Main tooling Axis

Draft analysis as per Main tooling Axis:

Surfaces which are not cleared in themain tooling direction (shown in red color) will be cleared by side core tooling axis

Creating side tooling axis:

We take extract of the surface and create point on the middle of surface then after that we create line normal to that surface.

Perfoming draft analysis :

Now the area which was left earlier in main tooling axis is cleared in side core tooling axis.

Now as our Tooling directions are finalised now so we can move ahead with creating B & C surface

CLASS B Surface Creation: Now we make class B surface using the plane surfaces of Class A.

1. First we use extract command to copy the plane surfaces of Class A and then Untrim those surfaces.

2. Then we get the basic surfaces and extrapolate then so that they are easy to Trim later.

3. After extrapolating the surfaces we trim then together to form sharp model.

4. We take offset of the surfaces as per the required thickness of the model.

5. After offset we trim all base surfaces and ribs together and form a single sharp model.

6. After trim we apply Edge fillet to sharp edges.

Now B surface is formed and we can publish the final B surface

To create this surface we have to use the common edge of the fillets from A surface and then by using hit and trial we get the surface matching with orginal at 35 degrees

We have to use the blend command for smooth merging of the two surface at different orientaions

Creating the depression with ribs

We take the rib surfaces from the Class A and and offset them as per the thickness and we extrapolate surfaces with curvature continuity then we Trim them with surface to get required shape

After getting these all surfaces we trim them together to form Sharp model then apply edge fillets with help of A surface we calculate the required radius of edge fillets and we get final B surface

C surface Creation

By taking the boundary of Class A Surface create the C surface. Surfaces which are to be cleared with mian tolling direction are created using main tooling direction as draft direction and for merging of surfaces we use multisection solid command so that the the surfaces follow the proper guide curve during merging and there is no gap in between the surfaces,

After creating the Class A B & C surfaces we make close volume using trim

Now we make it solid body using Close surface command in part body workbench
