Design of backdoor

BACKDOOR

AIM:- Design of the Outer upper panel and lower panel, inner panel, and the necessary reinforcements by following the Master section with the design parameters for the given styling surface.

INTRODUCTION:- The trunk or backdoor of a car is the vehicle's main storage or cargo compartment, often a hatch at the rear of the vehicle. It is also called a tailgate.

The trunk or luggage compartment is most often at the rear of the vehicle. Early designs had an exterior rack on the rear of the vehicle to attach the luggage trunk. Later designs integrated the storage area into the vehicle's body and eventually became more streamlined. The main storage compartment is normally provided at the end of the vehicle opposite where the engine is located.

Gap and Flushness:- As vehicles are assembled, the fit-up of various parts is inspected by measuring the width of the gap between two adjacent panels and the alignment of the two surfaces, also called flushness. ... Mechanical devices struggle to measure the gap and flush features on such complex surfaces

The Main Parts of the Back Door:

  1. Outer Upper Panel.
  2. Outer Lower Panel.
  3. Inner Panel.
  4. Gas Stay Reinforcement Left and Right
  5. Hinge Reinforcement LH and RH.
  6. Striker Reinforcement.
  7. Wiper Reinforcement.

.

  1. Outer Upper Panel:

The outer upper panel is the styling surface of the back door

  1. Outer Lower Panel.

The outer Lower panel is the styling surface of the back door

  1. Inner Panel.

The inner Panel is a component which is used for strengthening the door. Its thickness is in the range of 0.65-0.75 millimetres. It is one of the most important components on which all accessories are mounted like Hinges, Gas Stay, Wiper Moter, Latch and Striker etc

  1. Gas Stay Reinforcement Left and Right

Gas Stay is a device used for supporting the back door in its open position. Gas stay requires no manpower and is engaged into support position automatically as the back door opens.

  1. Hinge Reinforcement LH and RH

.

  1. Striker Reinforcement.

The striker reinforcement gives the locking mechanism better strength.

  1. Wiper Reinforcement.

Wiper Motor Reinforcement is created to mount the Wiper Motor Assembly.

TOOLING DIRECTION:

The Tooling Direction for the inner panel is derived using bisection lines of the part from two sides.

Hemming is the process in which the edge is rolled flush to itself, while a seam joins the edges of two materials. Hems are commonly used to reinforce an edge, hide burrs and rough edges, and improve appearance.

Relief area

Draft analysis:-

The Draft Analysis command enables you to detect if the part you drafted will be easily removed. This type of analysis is performed based on colour ranges identifying zones on the analyzed element where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, corresponds to specified values.

FINAL OUTPUT

CONCLUSION:- The Design of a Back door from the given skin data and the master section has been successfully created, considering the design rules as mentioned in the given data.
