Design of backdoor

BACK-DOOR DESIGN

Objective:

Use the provided styling surface to come up with a back door design, use appropriate design methodologies and provide the necessary reinforcements and embosses.

Software Used:
NX CAD

Backdoor Introduction:

An automobile back door or Tailgate is the panel that covers the boot (or trunk) of an automobile. It enables access to the main luggage compartment. A hinge allows the boot lid to be raised, while devices such as springs or gas cylinders hold it up in the open position The Backdoor is an assembly of many parts such as inner panel, outer panel upper, outer panel lower and Reinforcement. Inner panel is attached to the outer panel using mastic sealant.

Hemming is the process of joining two surfaces using set of rollers to bend the parent over the sub part. The brown parent part is the outer panel and white sub part is the inner panel.

DESIGN CONSIDERATION FOR BACKDOOR INNER PANEL:

1. Rear Visibility.

2. Support structures like hinges and gas stays.

3. Mounts for wiper motor, tail lamps, and other wiring loops.

4. Fit and clearances.

5. Boot space

6.Rear crash regulations and requirements.

7.Sealing and its functions.

8.Joining techniques like hemming, spot welding etc.

COMPONENTS OF BACKDOOR:

  • Inner panel
  • Outter panel upper
  • Outter panel lower
  • Hinge reinforcement LH
  • Hinge reinforcement RH
  • Gas stay reinforcement LH
  • Gas stay reinforcement RH
  • Wiper motor reinforcement
  • Latch reinforcement
  • Plastic trim

INNER PANEL:

Car backdoor inner panel is made of either steel or alumminium. Most of the luxury car's inner panel are made of aluminium because of is properties. But the cost of aluminium is high.

I have tried attaching the CAD file in zip format but am not able to attach the file, hence attaching images:
