Design of backdoor

AIM:- Develop a detailed report for the Back door design by explaining the design methodologies and about the components developed in the design

BACK DOOR

A back door is BIW component found in all automotive car genaral used for opening and closing of the luggage that is usally used for storing items inside a car. In principle, back door have to fulfil similar requirements and are subject to the same design guidelines as bonnets. However, aluminium sheets are used much less for back door than for bonnets. The main reason is that the “value” of weight saved in the rear of the car is significantly lower than in the front because of the aim for a 50:50 axle load distribution. In many cases, automobile engineers are even shifting mass (e.g. batteries) towards the back in order to achieve a more balanced axle weight distribution.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BACK DOOR MOUNTING :

single side mounting

double side mounting

top mounting

s

bottom mounting

Design Considerrations in Back Door

  • hinge mounting
  • gas stay mounting
  • wiper mounting
  • latch and striker mounting
  • hemming and relief
  • material selection

emboss on the inner part of the back door

this emboss are provided to reduce the impact when accident occures.

MY DESIGN

hinge reinforcement

this supports the weignt of whole back door the hinges are mounted on the rear roof of the vehical.

gas stay reinforcement

A gas spring is a type of spring that, unlike a typical mechanical spring that relies on elastic deformation, uses compressed gas contained within an enclosed cylinder sealed by a sliding piston to pneumatically store potential energy and withstand external force applied parallel to the direction of the piston shaft.

wiper motor reinforcement

this is created to mount the wiper motor to clean the water on the wind shield.

latch and striker mounting

this mounting is created to keet the door at the lock position when it is closed .

tooling direction for the car back door

latch and striker arrangement

here i used two points of the hinge arrangement from the that i took the center piont of it and then created circle from that point .

this is done because the hinge and the latch and striker shound tbe parallel .

Draft angles ?

Draft angles are very important in thermoforming product design. If the product is formed onto a female or negative mold, it shrinks away from the mold sidewalls. As a result, true female or negative products can be thermoformed with vertical walls having zero draft angles. If the product is formed onto a male or positive mold, it shrinks onto the mold sidewalls. A draft angle of 1–5 degrees is recommended for all male or positive products.

here we are taking minimum 7degree of draft angle because our die should not get damage and we should get a finish good product. In some area we cannot avoid negative draft. So bending operation is provided for the manufacturing process, because deep drawing cannot be done at the negative draft area.

here i have provided minimum draft angle of 7 which is minimum in this case.

what is hemming

Hemming is a forming operation in which the edges of the sheet are folded or folded over another part in order to achieve a tight fit. Normally hemming operations are used to connect parts together, to improve the appearance of a part and to reinforce part edges.

In car part production, hemming is used in assembly as a secondary operation after deep drawing, trimming and flanging operations to join two sheet metal parts (outer and inner) together. Typical parts for this type of assembly are hoods, doors, trunk lids and fenders.

manufacturing process of car back door involves Drawing and stamping process.

CONCLUSION :-

understand the concept of back door with the component and necessity of it . learned to operate NX CAD very good level.
