BACKDOOR DESIGN AND DEVLOPMENT

INTRODUCTION

Back Door in Cars, generally used for protection of luggage and protect passenger form sudden impact from the back side or hit by the other vehicles while an accident. It gives good look from back side.

In earlier day back door look like below one, as time passes and comfortability & safety of passengers are very important so it develop into the new one.

OBJECTIVE: -

  • By the using of styling surface design inner and outer panel of back door with the proper embosses.
  • Create embosses for the Gas Stay, Hinge, Wiper Motor and Latch & Stricker.
  • Do hamming for joining inner and outer panel.

Following parts has been designed: -

  • Back door inner panel
  • Hing reinforcement
  • Gas Stay reinforcement
  • Latch & Stricker reinforcement
  • Wiper motor reinforcement
  • Outer panel with hamming

DESIGN METHODELOGY: -

  • I extract the required surface form the styling surface, examining and fixing any surface errors with the consent with the styling surface.
  • created outer panel and developed new surface to get the desired shape of the panel.
  • Prepared the sealing flange. It is a surface through which the back-door rests on the body of the car.
  • Extract outer surface and offset by 1.8mm for the inner panel and created flange, embosses for the Hinge, Latch & Stricker and Gas Stay.
  • Create Y-Shape embosses in inner panel so that sudden impact can easily distributed outer side.
  • Here, I used Hamming technique for joining so I offset outer surface by 2.6 mm and created flanges of 12mm length. I also provided relief to the corner to avoid the irregular shape when do it in the practical.
  • Thickness of each panel is 0.75mm.

BACK DOOR INNER PANNEL: -

It is directly attached with the cars body with the help of hinges at the back side. Here all necessary parts like Wiper Motor, latch & Stricker are mounted.

WIPER MOTOR: -

The wiper motor is a small electric component that controls the movement of vehicle's windshield wipers. Windshield glass provide safety and proper view of back side. So it is very important to clean the glass. Here wiper play role to clean it.

GAS STAY: -

For easy opening and closing of door gas stay is used. One end of gas stay in attached with car’s body and another one with inner panel of back door. It also help to reduce the sudden impact due to weight of door while closing it. It Work very smoothly by automatic and manual operation.

LATCH AND STRICKER: -

Strikers are hooks or bolts that latch up the doors on a vehicle. The striker is designed to create a tight fit between the door and the seal on the cab. In some vehicles, a door latch mounted at the end of a car door catches on the door striker when the door is closed for a tight fit It is used for safety purpose of luggage and life of the car.

Y/V SHAPED EMBOSS CREATED FOR FORCE DISTRIBUTION: -

Emboss are very important for distribution of force. Generally Y/V shape is used because these two spread the load outside. Here, I created Y-shaped emboss.

OUTER PANEL WITH HAMMING: -

Outer panel provides styling look, it also help to cover the inner part and embosses of inner panel.

Hamming: -

As the back door is styling body so here can’t apply rivets and welding so hamming is used to join inner and outer panel both together.

Hamming is a joining technique or folding technique of two different part where outer part is bent inside and hold the inner part.

Relief provided at corners: -

Relief is very provided so that irregular shape can be avoided in manufacturing.
