Design of backdoor

DESIGN OF A BACK DOOR :-

AIM:-

The Aim of this project is to do a backdoor from the given input surface.

SOFTWARE USED:-

      Siemens NX CAD.

BACK DOOR:-

The back door is a one of the important closure component to the car. and it is the rearmost part of the vehicle which gives access to the trunk space of the vehicle. The rear door also supports the reinforcements and added weights of the Wiper Motor, Gas Stay, Tail Lamp, and Latch and Striker.

The Back door or tailgate or trunk lid is the sheetmetal Body in White (BIW) component. The backdoor has a lot of components inside and is designed to incorporate them easily. It affects the rear visibility and luggage area.So maintain the proper luggage arrangement leads to clear visiblity of the rearview and the proper closing of the tail gate.

MAJOR PARTS AND REINFORCEMENTS :-

  • Back door inner panel
  • Back door outer panel upper
  • Back door outer panel lower
  • Hinge reinforcements (both RH & LH)
  • Gas stay reinforcement (both RH & LH)
  • Wiper motor reinforcement (both RH & LH)
  • Latch and striker Reinforcement

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:-

  • The main design requirement of the back door is the "rear visiblity criteria" and the "space of the luggage storage area" and to "protect the passenger from the impact".

Back door inner panel Components and its reinforcements :-

Back door Outer panels :-

Both the panels are acting as the cover to the inner panel and both the panel are thicken component. The Outer Panel is the styling surface of the back door. Other components of the backdoor are designed with reference to the outer panel. It acts as the outer cover and deals with the aesthetics of the car.

Inner Panel Embosses :   These Embosses are highly helpful when placing the reinforcements.

Inner panel embosses:-

These panel embosses help when any impact happens on the backdoor the embosses in the innerpanel will collapses the energy inside the panel itself,it not allows the energy into the passenger compartment.

Hem and reliefs:-

Hemming and seaming are two similar metalworking processes in which a sheet metal edge is rolled over onto itself. Hemming is the process in which the edge is rolled flush to itself.

During the hemming process, when giving the Corner Relief helps to control sheet metal material behavior and to prevent unwanted deformation during unbend operations and also helps to reduce the number of passes in hemming.

AXIS:-

STRIKER AND LATCH:-

The striker and latch axis is helpful in a proper closing of the tailgate,if there is any mislead in the axis the closing will not proper.

TOOLING DIRECTION:-

The Tooling axis is the direction axis of the manufacturing if the draft analysis is clear the component will passes for manufacturing.

Draft analysis:-

  • The draft analysis will be performed for the tooling direction created at first and checked that the model is suitable for manufacturing.
  • Then to get a complete green portion the necessary changes to the draft angle of the embosses were carried out by optimizing the model.
  • The Draft Analysis command enables us to detect that the part drafted will be easily removed or not.

Draft analysis is clearing the component so it passes the manufacturing

Conclusion:-

Thus the Body In White Back Door of a car was designed following the engineering standards, considerations and also the deep drawing requirements were satisfied
