Design of backdoor

Title: To design backdoor of a car with all the feature and design rules.

Objective: To design inner panel, outer panel, inner flange for mastics, hinge and striker emboss and reinforcement for the backdoor.

Tools used:

Bridge curve

Studio surface

Offset curve

Trim sheet

Trim and extend

Description:

Backdoor of a car is one most important component which provide additional support to its body, it also provides space to put luggage in the vehicle. It composes of various component like hinge, striker and other reinforcements.

Steps followed:

Repairing the given A surface.

  • First the given back door panel is analysed for surface correction and found to be improper surface.
  • It is found that fillets are not proper and because of which it is not getting thickened.
  • So, to repair the surface the fillets are hidden and with the help of bridge curve and studio surface the fillets are again created.
  • Wherever studio surface did not work with the help of offset curve and through curve mesh the surface is trimmed and new surface is created.
  • After the surface is repaired it is sewed and checked for thicken in both direction for 0.75mm and found to be working

Creation of Inner panel

  • After the A surface creation, the outer back door is divided into two parts the upper and lower panel.
  • First inner panel for the upper part is done by extracting surface with wave geometry linker and then offsetting the panel to 1.7mm and for its flange creation.
  • Now with the help of trim sheet and law extension the upper flange is created and proper fillets of 4mm are provided to the edges.
  • Then flange is trimmed with the outer backdoor sheet and then with the help of bridge curve the inner panel lower portion is developed which joins the lower half of the back door.

Hinge and striker emboss creation

  • First a datum plane is defined on the outer edge of the inner panel.
  • On the defined edge with the help of sketch tool a line is created and finished the sketch.
  • The line is then extended with the help of law extension in both sides to form a flat surface which is then extended in tooling direction to form emboss.
  • The emboss is then sewed and trimmed with the main body to get obtain proper finished surface which is then given proper fillet to the sharp edges.
  • The process is repeated to form emboss for hydraulic gas stick.
  • The same operation is done to form emboss for striker assembly and then traction is created to assemble striker.

Mastic Flange and Reinforcement creation on inner panel

  • To create mastic flange first a datum plane is selected and offset is provided so that it remains close to the working surface.
  • On the selected surface sketch is done and then it is trimmed with the main sheet. Now in this cut out portion flange is created matching the dimension of the cut-out sketch.
  • At last proper fillets are provided to the sharp edges of the flange.
  • For the reinforcement same surface is utilized and sketch is done to form emboss of proper dimension, it is then given proper fillets to avoid sharp edges.
  • At last the surface is checked for thicken operation for the value of 0.75mm.
