Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design

Report for the above challenge is as follows.

The steps followed for the tooling axis are as follows.

  • first base part is extracted from the class A surface on which as point is marked.
  • On the marked point the suface intersect is defined in x axis.
  • Through the intersect two lines are created and the bisected to get a single line.
  • same process is repeated in Y direction and Y axis is created.
  • Now x and y axis is bisected to get single a tooling axis line.

To form B-surface, process followed is -

  • First the faces of the given A-surface is extracted separetely with extract command.
  • Than with the help of untrim and and extrapolate the faces are untrimed and extrapolated.
  • The intersected extrapolated faces are than trimed to obtain the desired B-surface which is than offseted 2.5mm as specefied.

C-surface creation -

  • First boundry is taken on the given A-surface.
  • Now with the help of sweep command sweep is applied with respect to draft angle at 90 degree.
  • Now with the help of join command A and Sweep surface are joined together to get C-surface

Finally created B and C surafce are trimmed together to get desired B-surface of thickness 2.5mm.

Draft analsys is done on Class A surface show green colour which gives draft of 3 degrees and above, below 3 is red and o -3 is blue.

Draft analsys done on final part show green upto 2 degrees and blue for less than 2 degrees.

For core and cavity design, process followed is -

  • first boundry is taken on given A surface and it is then extrapolated.
  • Then a rectangle sketch is drawn on the created axis system.
  • Created sketch is than extruded to the desired height.
  • Now to create Core, B-surface is shown and and upper half of the extrude is trimed with B-surface to get core.
  • same operation is repeated on the bottom half of the extrude, it is trimed with B-surface to get cavity.
  • B-surface is than intersected with the previously formed C-surface which gives parting line and parting surface.
  • Boundry of the top and bottom of the core and cavity are taken and it is filled with help of fill command.
  • Both core and cavity are formed into closed surface with the help of close surface commmand in part workbench.

Finally with the help of translate command the core and cavity are translated at certain distance in part workbench to present the final working.
