  • Using the XLINE command, create a vertical and horizontal line.

  • Use the fillet command with radius 0 to make a corner.
  • Select the offset tool. Specify offset distance to 48". Select multiple to offset multiple times, create 5 horizontal lines downward.
  • Now for the vertical lines. Select the offset tool. Specify offset distance to 75". Select multiple to offset multiple times, create 4 vertical lines to the right.

  • Use the "Trim" command to delete excess lines. Select all as cutting edges. Follow the image below.

  • Create the texts using the DTEXT command. Specify the base point at the lower left corner of the rectangle. Set rotation angle to 0. The text height need not be specified as the height of the text is already set in the text style. Move the text in the appropriate spaces. Current text height is 8". Yo

  • Do the same on the right side. You can copy all the text from one position to another and change the content by double clicking the text. This will prompt the textedit mode.

  • Create the Title of each column. Select the DTEXT command and enter the content "COL. NOS.". Use the lower left corner of the rectangle as base points. The current text height is 8", use the scale tool to double the size of the text. To scale, use the "Scale" tool. Set the insertion points as the base point.

  • To center the text, open the properties tab (It can be accessed by typing "Properties" in the command prompt). Set the "Justify" option to "Middle".

  • Move the text to the middle of the space provided. Select the Move tool. Specify the insertion point of the text as base point. When specifying the second point, click "Shift+Right Click" and select "Mid between 2 points". Select the corner points of the space provided to specify the center.

  • Do this on the other Title text. To create the rotated text, select the DTEXT command. Specify the lower left corner of the whole rectangle as base points. Set the rotation angle as 90. Specify the content.

  • Scale the text to 1.25 and move to the middle of the space provided. Then create the title for C1.

  • Duplicate C1 detail and rename as C1a.

  • Extend the lines using the Extend tool. Use the right most vertical line as boundary edges.

  • Use the Trim tool to delete the unnecessary lines. Replace the text content with the correct content as per the data.

  • Do the same steps until you reach the last rectangle.

  • Create the "Column Schedule" title. Select DTEXT command and set the upper left of the schedule as base point. Set rotation angle to 0. Scale the text to 2.0 and move up by certain space. To make the underline, double click the text object to enter the textedit mode. Once all text are selected, press CTRL+U to underline the text.

Create the Column details. Follow the dimensions given. Scale to 3x the original actual size to accommodate the space provided.

  • Select the rectangle tool, specify the dimensions. Offset the rectangle inward to specify the concrete cover and stirrups.

  • Create circles with appropriate diameters to identify the rebars. Use the fillet tool to fillet the edges.

  • Use the rectangle tool to identify the stirrups.

  • Fillet the edges for better representation. Now create the hooks. The hoops can be created using the ellipse tool.

  • The created column is the C1. Select the whole object. Select the copy tool. When specifying the base point, press CTRL+Right Click, select the "Mid between 2 points" and specify the corners of the rectangle. For the second point, do the same procedure then specify the corner points of the space provided as second point.

  • Scale the object 3x its size using the Scale tool. Specify the center of the object as base point. Add the "a" text to identify the different bar size.

  • Do the same procedures for the other column detail.

3. Conclusion

***************

The AutoCAD software provides a complete interface where the user can sketch a given object as well as describe it or identify its part using the text command and other annotations. The AutoCAD software does not allow the user to only sketch the given object but also provide measurements needed to understand the object. By describing the object using texts, the civil drawing will be more understandable and specifications can be identified in all the drawings. The

AutoCAD software also makes use of its interface such as text height and width factor to give different styles and sizes to accomodate the size of the sketch. It also provides the scale tool to match the actual paper size which helps in the printing of the sketches. The AutoCAD software makes sketching easier and faster.
