Project

Creation of Butterfly Valve and apply GD&T

objective:

The objective of this project is to design a butterfly valve and apply GD&T to it's components and final assembly using Catia v5.

Intoduction:

A Butterfly valve is a quarter-turn rotational motion valve, that is utilized to halt, oversee, and begin sail. Butterfly valves are simple and quick to begin. A 90° rotation of the handle offers a comprehensive closure or beginning of the valve. Big butterfly valves are generally equipped with a so-called gearbox, where the handwheel by gears is associated to the stem. This simplifies the manner of the valve, but at the expense of sprint.

Butterfly valves are mainly well-suited for the handling of big flows of liquids or gases at relatively low pressures and for the handling of slurries or liquids with big amounts of suspended solids. Butterfly valves are created on the principle of a pipe damper. The sail temperance element is a disk of roughly similar diameter as the inside diameter of the adjoining pipe, which rotates on either a vertical or horizontal axis. When the disk lies parallel to the piping run, the valve is fully opened. When the disk approaches the perpendicular situation, the valve is close. Intermediate positions, for throttling aims, could be secured in place by handle-locking devices.

GD&T SYMBOLYS

GD&T gives manufacturers a clear understanding of the tolerances for a specific part. It provides the maximum amount of tolerance for the part to function properly, which reduces part complexity so that you aren't overspending for a minimum tolerance that you may not need.

GD&T allows you to convey substantial information about your part’s design using a relatively small amount of letters, numbers, and symbols. No long paragraphs of explanation necessary! The ability to communicate efficiently reduces back and forth between you and the contract manufacturing service you are working with.

Since GD&T is such a precisely articulated system of language, it minimizes ambiguity in the description of a parts design. As a result, you can be confident that your part will be manufactured with the highest degree of accuracy and work as intended in the field

Components:
  • Body
  • Shaft
  • Retainer
  • plate
  • Handle
  • Nut

Body:

The part of the main component in butterfly valve is the body that is fit between two pipe flanges.

Shaft:
In bid for the disk to be held in the good situation, the stem needs to extend above the backside of the disk and get into a bushing in the backside of the valve body. The disc plate and lever are assembled to this shaft.

Retainer:
Retainer is a sort of washer repaired on the body of a butterfly valve. Butterfly valves include a valve seat comprising a publicly S-shaped cross-section and a valve seat retainer configured with properly shaped cooperating surfaces.

Plate:
When valve is fully opened or shut, the disc is rotated a district roll. Disc is mounted on a shaft. When the valve is shut, the disc is turned in such a way that it totally blocks off the passageway. When the valve is fully begun, the disc is rotated a district spin in order that it lets a nearly unrestricted passage of the fluid.

Handle:
Handle is mounted at an end of shaft outside the body. Handle is usually used in small sized Butterfly valves. It is used to open or close the valve.

Conclusion:
To design a butterfly valve and to apply the GD&T to the drawing and assemble all the parts by using CATIA V5 is successfully complete.
