Creating Walls, Partition walls and Floors for a residential layout using REVIT
1. Use the project file created from Week 2. Use it for this assignment. Based on your layout from week 2, using floor tool under architecture tab and select the floor with appropriate material and thickness using the property browser create a layout in the Ground floor Level. Align the floor plan with grids created from week 2
AIM:-
- To create a floor plan and need to apply the materials and thickness using the property browser
- To align the floor plan with grids created from week 2.
INTRODUCTION:-
- Building material is material used for construction. Many naturally occurring substances, such as clay, rocks, sand, and wood, even twigs and leaves, have been used to construct buildings.
- Apart from naturally occurring materials, many man-made products are in use, some more and some less synthetic.
- Floor plans are the most critical element of your house plans.Drawn to scale and shown from above, floor plans illustrate how rooms, spaces, and physical features work in relation to each other within the home.
- They’re the key documents that show how people will move through the space and interact with their home.
- Floor plans show the extent to which a space will work for its intended purpose.
PROCEDURE:-
- By using week 2 project adding ground floor with material and thickness from properties browser and align to the grid. The procedure is shown and explained step by step.
- Launch the Revit software
- Click on open and select previously created drawing as Chanllenge_02

- The above attached figure shown is the work out of previous challenge. The same revit is used here as well.
- In the Architectural Tab select FLOOR
- Choose Pick Line tool from draw panel
- Select exterior lines of the layout

- After that finish the edit mode by clicking green check mark
- Floor is created in the ground level
- Go to view tab for 3D view

- Select created floor

- In the properties browser go to Edit Type. After clicking the edit option, the edit assembly tab appears.

- Make a Duplicate and rename as the Ground Floor Slab

- Click on Edit select appropriate Material for structure. We select the material type in 2nd roow as shown below. After clicking that, the material browser appears, then select the material type as Analytical floor surface and colour is opted for shading and for foreground as shown below.
- Change thickness of structure 0.15m
- Click Apply and OK

- Finally the materials are applyed to the floor as shown below.

- To Allign the Grid
- Go to Level 1 that is renamed as ground floor or Top View to create grids
- In the Architectural tab select Grid from Datum
- Align the grids according to floor plan as shown in the below figure.

RESULT:-
The materials are applied to the floor and the floor plan is successfully aligned with the grids.

TOP CONSTRAINT - CONNECTED:-
- Check the wall property, Select the wall.
- Go to property browser
- Check the Base Constraint: Ground Floor
- And check the Top Constrained: Up to First Floor Level

- As shown in figure top constraint is connected to first floor level.
- If we change the level height, simultaneously the wall height will change. That is because top constraint is set to first floor.
TOP CONSTRAINT - UNCONNECTED:-
- Check the wall property, Select the wall.
- Go to property browser
- Check the Base Constraint: Ground Floor
- And check the Top Constrained: Unconnected

- If we kept the top constraint as unconnected then if we change the level height then only level height will change as it is unconnected the wall height will not change.
- As shown in the figure above. If we want to change the wall height, then change the unconnected height to 4.0m. Level height will not change but wall height will change.
ASSOCIATED LEVELS:-
- Associated levels are beneficial for connecting wall rather than being unconnected because when we create different types of walls so the level of wall is similar for all. We can change the height of wall instantly by provide associated level height. It’s gives accuracy and save time.
- Height option is more convenient for modelling walls which is create on the floor. base constraint of wall is on the current created floor and top constraint of wall is associated floor.
CONVENIENT FOR MODELING, BY HEIGHT OR BY DEPTH:-
- When we select the height option for the wall, The wall will be created above the level, as shown below.

- When we select the height option for the wall, The wall will be created below the level, as shown below.

RESULT:-
- Successfully applied materials to the walls.

- The top and bottom of the walls are constrained.

- Beneficial for connecting walls with associated levels is when level height changes, the wall height is also changes.
- Height option is convenient for modeling walls.
