Challenge

Creating Walls, Partition walls and Floors for a residential layout using REVIT

CHALLENGE WEEK - 2

REVIT

Question no. 1: Use the project file created from Week 2. Use it for this assignment. Based on your layout from week 2, using floor tool under architecture tab and select the floor with appropriate material and thickness using the property browser create a layout in the Ground floor Level. Align the floor plan with grids created from week 2

  • Aim:
  • To create a floor.
  • To select material to the floor.
  • To create a layouyt in the ground plan.
  • Procedure:
  • To create a floor.
  • The architectural tab is selected initially.
  • Then the floor creation tool is created.
  • Then it shows the options to create the floor.
  • The required shape of the floor to be created is chosen.
  • Then the floor is created for the plan created before.
  • Then the material of the floor is changed by using edit type option in the properties tab of the floor.
  • The material of the floor was changed to oak flooring.
  • Then the floor thickness was changed.
  • Initially the floor was in 6" thickness.
  • Then the floor thickness was changed to 1'
  • The thickness was also changed using the same process as that of changing the material.
  • Thus the floor for the plan was created.
  • The material and thickness of the floor were changed.
  • Result:
  • Thus the floor for the plan was created.
  • The material and thickness of the floor were changed.

Question no. 2: Add walls based on the floor layout. Pick lines or use the draw tool to modify the boundary of walls. Use the property browser to select appropriate material and thickness for walls. After creating the walls verify using the property browser to see if the top and bottom of the walls are constrained.

a. Based on your observation, what is beneficial for connecting walls with associated levels rather than being Unconnected
b. Which option is convenient for modeling walls, By Height or By Depth?

  • Aim:
  • To add walls to the floor layout.
  • To adjust the boundary of the walls.
  • To change material and thickness of the walls.
  • Procedure:
  • To add walls to the floor.
  • Initially we need to go the architectural tab.
  • In architectural tab choose wall creation tool.
  • Then the wall is created according to the floor layout created before.
  • Then the boundaries of the wall are adjusted tod the required dimesions of the layout.
  • The boundaries of the wall was created using teh draw tool in the wall creation tool.
  • After the creation of the wall, now we need to change the thickness according to the requirements.
  • Initially the walls were 8".
  • Then as per our requirement the walls were changed to 9" thickness.
  • Then to change the materilals.
  • We need to selet the edit type of the wall in the properties panel of the wall.
  • Thus the material is changed.

  • Thus the walls for the plan was created.
  • The material and thickness of the wall were changed.
  • Then after this we are checking wheather the walls are constrained in both top and bottom.

  • Thus from the above image we can see that the walls are constrained to the top and bottom.
  • Bottom of the wall is starting from ground floor and then top of the wall is connected to the first floor of the building.
  1. Based on my observation , constraining teh walls is a very effective way of modelling.
  2. There are many useful outcomes from this method.
  3. When teh floor heights are changed the walls gets coordinatively changes its heights.
  4. And we can easily maintain a standard height ofr the walls through out the project, according to teh levels.
  1. By height is teh very convienient way of modelling.
  • Result:
  • The walls were created accoring to teh boundry.
  • Thus the walls are constrained to the top and bottom.
  • The material and thickness of the wall was changed.

Question no. 3: Copy the model elements ( wall, floor ) modelled to Ground Floor Level and paste it aligned to First Floor Level . Use modify tab to utilize copy and paste options to align
elements to a different level

  • Aim:
  • To copy the model elements ( wall, floor ) modelled to Ground Floor Level
  • And paste it aligned to First Floor Level.
  • Procedure:
  • The previously created floors and walls to be copied.
  • And thus copied walls and floor is to be copied to teh next floor.
  • The walls and the floor to be aligned.
  • To copy and paste align the walls adn floor.
  • We need to select the walls and floors from its original position.
  • And copies those elements to teh clipboard.
  • Then the floor plan to be switched to the next floor.
  • Then select the modify tab.
  • And when selecting the paste tool.
  • Select the aligned to current view from the drop panel.
  • And the copied elements get aligned to teh corresponding floor plan.

  • And thus the walls and floors were copied and pasted to the other floor.
  • The copied floor is shown in above image.
  • Result:
  • Thus the walls and floors were copied and pasted to the other floor.
  • Floors adn walls were aligned perfectly.

Question no. 4: Use interior partition walls to create separate rooms within your residential unit. The model must include the following rooms

a. Living Room/ Drawing Room ( 15’ X 18’)
b. Dining Room (9’ X 11’)
c. Bed Room ( 9’ X 12’ and 15’ X 11’)
d. Rest Room ( 10’ X 12’ )
e. Kitchen (8’ X 10’)

The above are for examples. You can use them or use your measured entities to create your model based on your layout. You may include entry walkway, Patios or Guest
rooms based on your creativity and purpose of modeling. Convert units if you are using metric system

  • Aim:
  • To create interior partition walls to create separate rooms.
  • Procedure:
  • The rooms of the plan are divided using the partition walls.
  • The partition walls are of 4.5".
  • The above said rooms were created as per our own desires.
  • Thus created plan with the partition walls and the rooms is shown below.

  • Thus the said floor plan with the required rooms and the partitioning walls were created.
  • Result:
  • Thus the said floor plan with the required rooms and the partitioning walls were created.
  • Room naming and dimesions are mentioned in the plan.

Question no. 5Based on week 2 assignment, the components to be included in a residential unit were inserted to the Revit file. Place these components in appropriate locations to add details to your residential model

a. Place Doors and windows in the wall at appropriate locations
b. The Living Room must include furniture set, couch table and TV desk and shelf cabinets
c. The Dining Room must include a table and chairs serving the purpose of eating
d. Bed Room must include a bed set, shelf, lighting and individual study desk and chair
e. Rest room should include bath tub and plumbing fixtures discussed in class
f. Kitchen should include countertops, gas stove cabinet and shelves to store food items
g. The wash/storage room can include washing machines and shelves to store clothes

All the components are available in Revit Library. Use them to place at appropriate locations to add details to your model. Use 3D navigation to check the model and its authenticity on a real time basis to verify the model

  • Aim:
  • To place component at required places.
  • The components to be placed as per the conditions listed.
  • Procedure:
  • The components being placed is imported from external places.
  • The components placed are as per conditions and lists set.
  • Initially the doors and the windows were placed as required in the particular locations.
  • The doors and windows placed is shown below.

  • The hall was set with the required couches,TV table, Shel cabinates
  • Thus created living room is shown below.
  • Then the dining room is created.
  • The dining room was placed with the dining tables and components.

  • Then the model of teh bedroom along with the components were placed.
  • Thus created bedroom is shown below.
  • The bedroom containg bed and lights.

  • Bedroom containg shelves.

  • Bedroom containing personal study desk and chair.

  • Then the restroom along with its components were placed.
  • The restroom is created with required plumbing fixtures.
  • Thus created restroom is shown below.

  • After this kitchen components were placed.
  • The created kitchjen is shown below.
  • Result:
  • Thus the rooms were created along with proper components in it.
