Challenge

Creating Architectural and Structural model with 3D rendering using REVIT

1) Select the type of structure you want to build from one of the three below:
a. Multi-Unit Residential Apartment
b. Office Buildings
c. School

Ans. I have chosen the Multi-Residential Apartment model.

2) Assume reasonable assumptions for geographic and location details for your project modeling. Based on assumptions and type of structure selected identify the modeling requirements from NBC

Ans. For geographic and location details assumptions made are:

  • My project is in residential area.
  • Road width in front of my apartment is 60feet.
  • My project is in plain area(geographical).

As per NBC

Height Limit as per FAR calculation and as per NBC table 5V-1.

Min length and width of rooms as per NBC-1.

Fire and safety from NBC part IV.

3) Using the structural model, include the following components based on the type of structure selected
a. Foundation – Isolated / Wall/Matt Foundation
b. Columns
c. Beams Connected to Columns
d. Roof Framing/ Truss
e. Floor / Decks
f. Floor Openings for Elevators and Stairs

Aim: to create foundation, columns, beams connected to columns, roof framing, floor openings for elevators and stairs.

Procedure:

  • Open the structural model which was created in week 6.
  • To create foundation level click on levels in datum tab> cretae levels in elevation view.
  • Now go to foundation level and create grids accordingly.
  • Go to load families.
  • Select structural foundations and insert it in the desired locations.

  • After this the same procedure for columns.
  • Beams are connected same as columns.
  • Now the beams, columns and footing are connected.

  • Go to structural tab>click on floor and edit the boundary.

4) Using the architectural model, include the following components based on the type of structure selected
a. Wall Layout with appropriate material and finishing
b. Exterior façade with fancy finish
c. Interior partition walls to size rooms
d. Components to add details to a room ( Desk, Chair, Lighting, Plumbing fixtures)
e. Add components such as stairs Elevators
f. Have at-least one side of the building with curtain walls and glass panels
g. Include interior and exterior lighting fixtures
h. Place proper topographic components from outside ( Trees, Parking, Plants) to add details to the model

Aim: to the architectural model, include the components based on the type of structure selected.

Procedure:

  • Open architectural model which we created in week 6 challenge.
  • Go to architectural tab>click on place components>load families.
  • Load the required families and wall and floor designs.

Results:

  • In this image exterior lights, staircase and flagpole are added.

  • For curtain wall creation click on wall>properties>curtain walls.
  • Curtain wall is created on one side of the building.

  • Other components like desk, chair, lightning and plumbing fixtures are also added using to load families.

5) Provide a set of drawings in an architectural and structural model to list the following details with categories and appropriate sheet templates included
a. Floor Plans with Annotations
b. Elevations
c. Sections

Aim: to provide set of drawings in architectural and structural model to list the following details with categories and appropriate sheets included.

Procedure:

  • Go to view tab>sheets>click on the appropriate sheets>add the views.

Results:

Level 1 Floor Plan:

Level 2 floor Plan:

6) Using the Rendering settings, Render images of the 3D model produced and include the rendered images to the drawing sheets
a. Rendering from interior rooms
b. Rendering from out showing topographic features
c. Rendering through structural framing

Aim: to use the rendering settings and transfer it to the drawing sheets.

Procedure:

  • Go to view tab>click on rendering view.

  • After applying required settings click on render.

Results: rendered images of different locations are shown below
