Creating Architectural and Structural model with 3D rendering using REVIT

Introduction:

revit enables the project to be completed in a combined effort. structural engineers that are using revit and are working with architects using revit architecture can directly link to the architecture model.Linking a revit architecture file with a revit structure file gives the structural engineers a starting point for their design, based o the architectural design intend. Changes made by architects can be tracked facilitating designing coordination and change management. Similarly, architects using revit architecture. can link revit strutcure model into their architectural model and repeat the coordination benifits.

Architectural model of a buildiing may includes walls, doors, windows, starirs,etcc..Contributing to the entire aesthectic of the structure model may be include foundation, columns, beams, trusses,etc,... That contributes to the strutural stability of the building. these two model can be developed seperated and can be linked together ta a singel model i.e,.. the construction model.

1) Select the type of structure you want to build from one of the three below:
a. Multi-Unit Residential Apartment
b. Office Buildings
c. School

Answer:

Ihave choose an office for the project.

2) Assume reasonable assumptions for geographic and location details for your project modeling. Based on assumptions and type of structure selected identify the modeling requirements from NBC

Answer

The office building is planned to be constructed in commerical IT park area in Viskhapatnam.

Modelling requirements as per NBC:

Since, my building is an officxe building , it can take as a bussiness building.

  • The open space around the building will be shall not be less than 4.5m.
  • Considering the type of construction as type 2 construction, The FAr value for the bussines building should be taken as 2.9. The plot size is taken as 40mx70m and individual floor area is 2000m2. Hence FAr value is obtained is 2.14. Which is within the prescribed linits as per NBC.
  • The width of the road Abutting the building is taken as 9m(30').
  • Thge maximum height of the building shall not be exceed 1.5 times the width of road abutting plus open space.Building will consists of 3 floors each floor having 3.6m, Hnece the bentire floor heighjt will be the 10.8m ,Which is with in the limits prescribed by NBC.

3) Using the structural model, include the following components based on the type of structure selected
a. Foundation – Isolated / Wall/Matt Foundation
b. Columns
c. Beams Connected to Columns
d. Roof Framing/ Truss
e. Floor / Decks
f. Floor Openings for Elevators and Stairs
ANSWER:

AIM:

To craete the following in the structural template.

a. Foundation – Isolated / Wall/Matt Foundation
b. Columns
c. Beams Connected to Columns
d. Roof Framing/ Truss
e. Floor / Decks
f. Floor Openings for Elevators and Stairs

PROCEDURE:

  • Intially open the architreture templpater and develop the rough plan of the building as given below.
  • now, draw the grid lines in the architecture template as per the plan developed.
  • Now we, we have to copy the grid line to the strutural template.
  • For the first we have to collaborate the proiject.
  • go to the collborate tab and select collborate.
  • Save the file as central model file.
  • now, open the structure template in the revit software.
  • noe, in the structural model, go to collaborate tab and collaborate,
  • Save the file as central model file.
  • Now, go to the insert option and insert the architecture model link into the strutural model.
  • Now, in the structural template, go to collaborate tab and choose copy/monotor to copy the grid lines.
  • Choose select link optionand then select link in the window and the copy the grids both horizontal and vertical.
  • Now, go to manage tab, and select cooridantes in that select the shared cooridanets for north/ south as 0.
  • Similraly specify the shared coordinates for the vertical grid too.
  • Hence, the grids in the structural temeplate is set.

a. Foundation – Isolated / Wall/Matt Foundation:

  • Now we have the place footings and columns in the approriate postions.
  • For this go to the structure tab of the revit and in that choose isolated footings.
  • Now, place the footings at the required postions.
  • The size of the footings is 1800x1200mm
  • These grids are tenh move to the foundation level which is at a depth of 2.5m below the ground floor level.

b. Columns:

  • Now place the Column above the footings.
  • 3d view is given

c. Beams Connected to Columns:

  • Next we have to place the grade beam at the ground floor level.
  • For this go to struture tab and in that choose beams.

  • 3D view is givn below.

  • Now we have to complete the frame work of the building using the column beam structure.
  • For the rest of the beams we haves choosen: concrete beam.300x400mm.

  • Hence, the entire framework is completed.

d. Roof Framing/ Truss:

  • Next we have to provide a roof for the structure.
  • here, i have provided a skylight window at top centre portion..
  • The reamaining portion will be covered as a flat roof.
  • The opening provided at the top skylight window. hence roof is completed.

e. Floor / Decks:

  • now, place the structural floor on ecah level.
  • For this, go to the strutura tab--> floor.
  • First draw the floor at the ground floor level, then copy it to first, second and thrid floor.

f. Floor Openings for Elevators and Stairs:

  • Now, we have to provide floor opening for stairs and elevators.
  • For this go the architecture tab---> shaft opening--> provide oprning the at the required postion.

  • Hence the opening is also provided.

RESULT:

All the structural compenets have been provided in the structural model.

4) Using the architectural model, include the following components based on the type of structure selected
a. Wall Layout with appropriate material and finishing
b. Exterior façade with fancy finish
c. Interior partition walls to size rooms
d. Components to add details to a room ( Desk, Chair, Lighting, Plumbing fixtures)
e. Add components such as stairs Elevators
f. Have at-least one side of the building with curtain walls and glass panels
g. Include interior and exterior lighting fixtures
h. Place proper topographic components from outside ( Trees, Parking, Plants) to add details to the model
