Creating a Wardrobe detailed drawing, Floor Plan, Kitchen Layout and Column Detail using AutoCad

Aim: To draw the cabinet, floor plan, kitchen, column details and raft layout drawing:

Procedure: commands used in AutoCad are as follows:

  • Line- to draw horizontal and vertical line of known distance we use the line command with command"L" by selecting the start point and end point.
  • Rectangle- to draw the rectangle we use "REC" command select first point, click on dimensions then enter the value of length, press enter then value of breath and then press enter.
  • Offset- to draw lateral distance from a specified line by giving command"o".
  • Trim: to delete the extra portion of object use command"TR".
  • Extend: to extend the line at a distance we use command "EX".
  • Fillet: to join the corners or to curve the corners we use command"F" and give fillet radius.
  • Horizontal construction line: line which extends to infinity command "XL" and enter H.
  • Vertical construction line: line which extends to infinity command "XL" and enter V.
  • Explode: to make single object into different line segments we use command "EXPLODE".
  • Circle: to create a circle we use command "C" select center and give the diameter.
  • Mirror: to create the mirror object we use command "MI" select the the source object, then base point and draw the mirror plane and the mirror object will be created in opposite side.
  • Copy: to copy the object we use command"CO" then select source object then base point and then copy the object to the required position.
  • Divide: to divide a line into different segments we use command"DIV" select the line and give the number of segments and enter.
  • Point: to show the divided points using command"DDPTYPE".
  • Text: to write the text select either single line or mutltext and enter the text.
  • Hatch: to hatch inside an object to know what material it is made of we use "Hatch" command.
  • Dimensions: to show the measurements select from tool bar and select the dimension tool.
  • Layer: to place each object in separate layer so that all objects in one layer will be selected with single selection and we change the properties of all the objects of the layer by changing properties of the layer. From the layer properties create the layers.
  • Open Auto CAD in metric units if drawing is in metrci and imperial if the drawing is in feet and inches.
  • Set the limits and zoom all using command "Z">"A".

1.Cabinet drawing:

Aim: To draw the plan, elevation and section of a cabinet.

Procedure:

a) Drawing of plan:

  • Draw a rectangle of size 2800X630mm using the rectangle command.
  • Using the offset command: give an offset of 12mm inside for the thickness.
  • Explode this rectangle using the explode command.
  • Using offset command: take an offet of 365mm from the right side of rectangle and also to two sode of 365mm by 12mm.
  • Draw the doors by line and arc.

b) Drawing of front elevation:

  • Project lines from both ends of the plan view and also the 12mm line on both side with ortho on.
  • Now we draw a horizontal line as bottom and take offset of 2600mm from the horizontal line.
  • From the bottom we draw an offset of 100mm using offset command.
  • Take another offset from the bottom line of 2100mm to top and also 12mm thickness from top is also offsetted.
  • Now project the line of 365mm and 1217.5mm from the plan to the elevation by extend command.
  • Also project the doors from the plan.
  • Trim off the extra lines.
  • Draw the crossing line by line tool to indicate doors.
  • Draw the handles with line command of size 80mm width and 995mm height.
  • At last draw the section line 1-1.

c) Drawing Carcase elevation:

  • Project the lines to side from the elevation-bottom line offset 100mm,2100mm line from the bottom and 12mm thickness.
  • Project the ends of the cabinet from the plan view.
  • Take offset distance of 20mm from the bottom horizontal line.
  • Take an offset of 1223mm from the left end 12mm line so that the centre is marked and take offset of 20mm on both sides of this line.
  • To create the partition offset at a distance of 680mm from the bottom 20mm offsetted line then again offset 20mm from that line.
  • Now create an offset of 300mm and 20mm thickness til it meets the height of 2100mm.
  • Then divide the second portion of cabinet into half to create hanger space by offset distance as 508mm and offset thickness as 20mm.
  • Trim the extra lines.
  • Now divide the 1st shelf of 300mm from bottom.
  • Create drawers in right portion: offset 100mm from two sides and bottom.
  • In the right portion, draw a line from bottom as offset of 900mm and 500mm from top.
  • Draw the legs of cabinet by creating rectangle of 100X50mm.

d) Drawing side elevation:

  • Project the height from the carcase elevation.
  • Draw a line of left side and offset 630mm for the right side.
  • Take an offset of 20mm to show the thickness on sides and top.
  • Take offsets from bottom as 100mm,900mm,20mm thickness and 1180mm to show the divisions.
  • Draw the section line 2-2.

e) Drawing section 1:

  • As section 1 is in elevation, project teh height from the elevation.
  • Give an offset of 630mmand provide an offset of 20mm for thickness.
  • For the inside cabinets project lines from the carcase elevation of 100mm,900mm,300mm and 20mm as thickness.

f) Drawing section 2:

  • Porject the height from the side elevation as the section is taken from the side elevation.
  • Give offset of 365mm as width.
  • Now give offset on the side as well as the top of 20mm.
  • Project the 900mm line from bottom and 520mm line from the top.
  • Now for dimensioning go to the tool bar for dimensions and dimension each plan, elevation, side view and section view.
  • Now insert the text by selecting multiline text from the tool bar and giving text height as 75mm and style as romans.shx.
  • Type the required text for the different drawings.
  • Now hatch the wall surface and doors using hatch command by selecting ANS131 for wall surface with scale 50 and select ANS 134 with scale 15 for doors surface.
  • At last create the layers by clicking on layer property.
  • Create 5 layers for frame, cabinet, dimension, text and doors and give colour to each layer.
