Challenge

Creating a Residence Layout, Seating plan, Toilet and Utility room plan using AutoCad

Aim 1: To sketch the layout of a residence as shown in the Figure.

Introduction: Sketch of a residential building using AutoCad is done through this challenge. Here, we consider all dimensions as reference to sketch the unit plan.

Procedure:

  • Open AutoCad
  • Using the command prompt, enter QNEW and select imperial
  • Type UN in the command prompt and Select Engineering, precision to 0'-0.0".
  • Set the Limits, as lower limts 0'0.0",0'0.0" and upper limit 100'0.0",100'0.0".
  • Type Z in the command prompt and type A to zoom all.
  • Type XLINE in the command prompt and draw a horizontal and vertical line
  • Type OFFSET in the command prompt and offset 9" for the external wall and 4.5" for the internal walls.
  • Again type OFFSET in the command prompt and offset 6' for the stairs.
  • Using Offset tool, offset 18'0.5" for the Kitchen and dining room.
  • Using Offset tool, offset 11' for the Living room
  • Using Offset tool, offset 25' for the boundary
  • Using Offset tool, offset 4'6.0" for the Toilet#1
  • Using Offset tool, offset 4'6.0" for the Toilet#2
  • Using Offset tool, offset 12' for the Bed#1 and Bed#2
  • Now using TRIM, trim off the unwanted lines.
  • Type OFFSET in the command prompt and offset 11'7.5" for Bed#1
  • Type OFFSET in the command prompt and offset 11'6.0" for Bed#2
  • Type OFFSET in the command prompt and offset 8'3.0" for Toilet#1
  • Type OFFSET in the command prompt and offset 8'1.5" for Toilet#2
  • Type OFFSET in the command prompt and offset 8'7.5" for the Dining room
  • Type OFFSET in the command prompt and offset 14'10.5" for Living room
  • Now type Line in the command prompt and sketch a line in the needed length and offset 3' for Door1
  • Now type Line in the command prompt and sketch a line in the needed length and offset 2'6" for Door2
  • Now type Line in the command prompt and sketch a line in the needed length and offset 3'3" for Door3
  • Draw a line 6' for the staircase with Line command
  • Offset 8 times a distance of 1' for the stairs
  • Using CIRCLE command, draw circle of appropriate radius for the doors as given in the specifications.
  • Trim off the unwanted lines using TRIM command.

Aim 2: To sketch the seating plan for an outdoor canopy

Introduction: Using various tools we can create different sketches of different pattern easily, similarily here we sketch the seating plan for an outdoor canopy.

Procedure:

  • Open AutoCAD,
  • Take a new drawing page by the command QNEW and select imperial
  • Typing UN in the command prompt, select engineering with precision 0'0.0"
  • Now setting up the limits as, lower limit as0'0.0",0'0.0" and upper limit as 100'0.0",100'0.0"
  • Type Z in the command prompt and type A to zoom all the elements in the screen
  • Using CIRCLE command, draw a circle of radius 1398
  • And draw another circle of radius 452
  • Draw a line, like a rectangle using LINE command
  • Type ARC and draw an arc with start, centre and end
  • Type OFFSET and offset the arc and join them
  • Draw two rectangles below the arc using the RECTANGLE command and trim the unwanted lines using TRIM command.
  • Type MIRROR in the command prompt and mirror the image exactly opposite to it below the middle circle.
  • Now using ROTATE command, rotate the image to angle 90
  • Using MOVE command, move the image and place it in the desired position.
  • Type MIRROR in the command prompt and mirror the image exactly opposite to it below the middle circle.
  • Now Trim the unwanted lines.

Aim 3: To sketch the part plan for the toilers and utilities room

Introduction: By using various functions and tools of AutoCad, we can sketch the part plan for the toilers and utilities room by considering the outer wall thickness as 300mm and inner wall thickness as 150mm.

Procedure:

  • Open AutoCad
  • Take a new drawing by QNEW and select decimals and set precision to 0.0
  • Set the units to metric
  • Set the LIMITS, that is lower limit as 0,0 and upper limit as 1000,1000
  • Type Z and then A to zoom all
  • Type XLINE in the command prompt and draw a horizontal line.
  • Using OFFSET , offset 300 mm for the external walls and 150 mm for the internal walls
  • Type OFFSET in the command prompt, and offset 1900mm for both utility and toilet
  • Using OFFSET, offset 1700 for toilet
  • Using OFFSET, offset 2100 for utility room
  • Type TRIM in the command prompt and trim off the unwanted lines
  • Using LINE command, draw a line in required distance and offset 828 distance for Door 5
  • Now, using OFFSET, offset distance of 728 for W9
  • Again using OFFSET, offset a distance of 631 for V2
  • Now, trim the unwanted lines.
