Creating a Residence Layout, Seating plan, Toilet and Utility room plan using AutoCad

1. Residence Plan

Sketch the layout of a residence as shown in Figure 1. Consider all the dimensions as a reference to sketch the unit plan. Also, the text in the layout is only for reference. assume the missing dimensions. Also, refer to the schedule for the size of the doors.

Aim: To draw the residential plan with the details given.

Introduction:

  • Residential planning is ideal for students and practitioners of urban design, planning, engineering, architecture, and landscape seeking a comprehensive guide to the theory and practice of designing and laying out residential areas.
  • Commands used:
    • Linmax command
    • Limits command
    • Zoom command
    • Xline command
    • Line command
    • Dimlinear command
    • Dimstyle command
    • Units command
    • Text command
    • LW command
    • Extend command
    • Trim Command

Stepwise Procedure:

  • Enter the xline command and draw the line on both the x-axis and y-axis.
  • Make an offset of 9" and draw the wall.
  • The main wall is made of 9" thickness.
  • Partition walls are made of 4.5" thickness.
  • Next enter the offset command in the command box, then press enter and select the lines which we have drawn previously and offset the lines to 9".

  • After providing the walls, remove the extra line using the trim command.
  • In the same offset command is used to partition the rooms, toilets, living and dining hall as per the dimensions.

  • Staircase provided is a dog-legged stair.
  • Draw the stairs left side of parking with 1' tread and 6" riser, which is shown in the figure only.

  • Next we have to draw the doors with the given dimensions for D1, D2, and D3. Provide the dimensions
  • Differentiate the doors and staircase using different colors.

  • And also give the names of the rooms in the residential building.
  • To provide the names use the "mtext" command.

Result:

The given residential plan is drawn using AutoCAD.

2. Sketch the seating plan for an outdoor canopy. Assume the dimensions for seating. Also, consider the dimensions in millimeters.

Aim:

To draw the given seating plan for an outdoor canopy in detail.

Introduction:

  • A canopy is an overhead roof or else a structure over which a fabric or metal covering is attached, able to provide shade or shelter from weather conditions such as sun, hail, snow, and rain.
  • Canopy can also be a tent, generally without a floor.
  • The seating plan of the outdoor canopy is placed in many places like receptions, restaurants, etc.

Command Used:

  • Linmax Command
  • Limit Command
  • Zoom Command
  • Circle Command
  • Arc Command
  • Array Command
  • Dimstyle Command
  • Units Command
  • Text Command
  • LW Command

Stepwise Command

  • Command: UN
  • Units
  • Command: C
  • Circle
  • Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (Tan Tan Radius)]
  • Specify the radius of a circle or [diameter]: 1398

  • Command: C
  • Circle
  • Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (Tan Tan Radius)]
  • Specify the radius of a circle or [diameter]<1398>: 452

  • Next here we have to draw the rectangle inside the first circle, then we have to enter the fillet command and select the rectangle corner to fillet it.
  • Next we select the arc command to create an arc left side of the rectangle.
  • Copy the created chair and use the array command.

  • By using a polar array and providing the number of items as 4 the chairs are created as shown below.

Result:

An outdoor canopy is created as per the details given using AutoCAD.

3. Sketch the part plan for the toilets and utility room. Consider the outer wall thickness as 300 mm and inner wall thickness as 150 mm. also, assume the missing dimension, text, and hatches are only for references. Also, symbols for toilets and w/c are for reference.

Aim:

To draw the part plan for the toilets and utilities in detail.

Introduction:

  • A toilet room usually consists of obviously a toilet, lavatory, and all of the accessories, such as grab bars and dispensers.
  • There are many layouts of this type but we will explore one very simple design and the code requirement of each.
  • The utility room has several uses but typically functions as an area for laundry.
  • The room consists of several types of equipment such as a washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board, and clothes iron.
  • The room would normally contain a second coat closet which is used to store seasonal clothing such as winter coats or which are no longer used daily.

Commands Used:

Linmax Command

Limits Command

Zoom Command

Line Command

Dimlinear Command

Stepwise Procedure:

Command: UNITS

  • Use this command to set the units to millimeters.

Command: xline

  • The lines are drawn using xline command in both x and y-direction.

Command: offset

  • The wall thickness is provided as 300 mm for the outer walls by using the offset command.
  • The wall thickness is provided as 150 mm for the inner walls by using the offset command.
  • The walls are drawn as per the given dimensions.
  • The extra unwanted lines are deleted using the trim command.

Command: Line and Arc

  • The doors are provided using line and arc commands.
  • The doors are created as per the given dimensions.

Command: Arc, ellipse, and circle

  • The toilet basin is created using the commands arc ellipse and circle.
  • Use the command trim and extend wherever required.

Command: Arc and Fillet

  • The wash basin is created using the command arc and fillet.
  • Ventilation for the bathroom is created as per the drawing using the command line and trim.
  • Text is added to the drawing using the "mt" command.
  • Dimension to the washroom is provided.

Result:

The given plan of the toilet and the utilities are created using AutoCad.
