Creating a Layout, Section and Elevation with dimensions using AutoCad

Create the Plan and Section as shown in the Figures. Use proper dimension techniques and dimension styles to document the project. Assume the sizes of the doors and windows as per construction standards. Refer to sections for stair details if required.

Aim:  To draw the Plan and Section using AutoCAD software.

Drawing of Plan

• Open AutoCAD software.
• Type QNEW in command box and press enter.
• Select default setting as metric and select ok.
• Type UN in command box and press enter.
• Choose unit of measurement as decimal with the precision 0 units.
• Type XL in command box and press enter.
• Choose horizontal option in command box and draw horizontal line.
• Again, type XL in command box and  vertical option from command box and draw vertical line.
• Type O in command box and press enter.
• Specify offset distance as 250 units and press enter.
• Take offset to the horizontal and vertical lines.
• Type F in command box and press enter.
• Select the multiple option followed by radius option from command box and specify radius as 0 units and fillet the inner and outer lines to create the corners.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 3300, press enter, select the inner vertical line and take offset in right direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 125, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in right direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 3175, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in right direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 125, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in right direction.

• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 125, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in right direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 250, press enter, select the last drawn horizontal offset line and take offset in downward direction.
• From the middle horizontal inner line take offset of 2400 in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 125, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in downward direction.
• Trim the extra lines to create the wall joints using trim tool.
• For drawing the opening, type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 900, press enter, select the bottom inner horizontal line of left top corner room and take offset in upward direction.
• Trim the extra lines using trim tool to create opening.
• Similarly draw all the openings at required position with the variation of size 1000 units wherever required.
• For drawing the stairs from left central vertical line take offset of 1200 in left direction.
• Trim the extra projected vertical line using trim tool.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 250, press enter, select the just drawn and trimmed offset line and take nine offsets in left direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 1200, press enter, select the last offset line and take offset in left direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 250, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in left direction.
• Join the top and bottom endpoints of all lines which acts as trades od stairs and take offset of 250 units in upward and downward direction from drawn lines.
• Trim the extra lines using trim tool.
• For drawing the window W3 draw the line joining midpoints of lines having length equal to the thickness of wall.
• Take offset of 600 in both direction and join the midpoints of offsets.
• Erase the middle line having length equal to thickness of wall using erase tool.
• Take offset of 25 units in both direction of joined line and erase the middle line using erase tool.
• Similarly draw the window W1 having length 800 and W2 having length 1000 and W4 having length 600 units.
• Draw the rectangle of 250 x 400 unit size using rectangle tool.
• Rotate and copy it to required position using rotate and copy tool respectively as per orientation of columns.

Drawing of section AA

• Type XL in command box and press enter.
• Select the vertical option from command box and draw the vertical projections from walls and columns of plan at the section line.
• Type XL in command box and press enter.
• Select the horizontal option from command box and draw the horizontal line intersecting projected vertical lines.
• Trim the extra projections using trim tool.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance 25, select the horizontal line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 100 units, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 75, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 150, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 500, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in downward direction for drawing the footings.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 2450, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in upward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 115, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 350, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in downward direction for creating the beam sections.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 1450, press enter, select the left face of middle column and take offset in left direction.
• For drawing the slab for stairs type L in command box, press enter, specify first point as interesting point of just drawn offset and bottom floor slab and specify next point as @2000<150 and draw the stair case slab and landing.
• Using Pline tool draw the first step of rise 143.75 and trade of 250 unit length and copy it for eight times using copy tool
• Draw the handrail of 800 unit height using line tool.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 350, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in downward direction for creating the beam sections
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 2850, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in upward direction.
• Select the same line and take offset of 2100 units in upward direction for lintel level followed by offset of 900 units to create the sill level from the same line.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 115, press enter, select top offset line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 350, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in downward direction for creating the beam sections.
• Trim the extra projected lines for creating the windows.
• Similarly draw the window of size 600 x 600 size for toilets.
• For drawing the door openings take offset of 1000 units in left direction from the second left vertical side of wall.
• For drawing the steps of stair case draw the projections from first step and last step of flight from plan using XL commands or tool.
• Make sure ortho mode is on.
• Using Pline tool draw the vertical line of 158.33 unit length in upward direction by specifying first point as end point of first step followed by horizontal line of 250 unit length in left direction.
• Type CO in command box and select the whole, step press enter, select the base point as first end point of first step and copy it by selecting the second point as last endpoint of last step for eight times.
• Type MIR in command box, press enter, select all the steps, press enter, specify first point of mirror line as last endpoint of last step and second mirror point as point at same horizontal level.
• Draw the waist slab and landing for stairs using line tool.
• Select the first floor and copy it using copy tool and copy it for two time and place it in required position for creating second and third floors.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 1000, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in upward direction for creating parapet wall of 125 unit thickness.
• Take offset of 2500 unit in upward direction followed by offset of 450 unit in same direction for drawing the headroom.
• Also draw the slab of 115 unit thickness and other components of headroom using line tool.
• Also draw the chhajja using line tool.

Drawing of Section BB

• Type XL in command box and press enter.
• Select the horizontal option from command box and draw the horizontal projections from walls and columns of plan at the section line.
• Type XL in command box and press enter.
• Select the vertical option from command box and draw the vertical line intersecting projected horizontal lines.
• Trim the extra projections using trim tool.
• Type RO in command box, press enter, select the entire lines, specify base point, specify rotation angle as 90 and press enter.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance 25, select the horizontal line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 100 units, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 75, press enter, select the just drawn offset line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 150, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in downward direction.
• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 500, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in downward direction for drawing the footings.

• Type O in command box, press enter, specify offset distance as 1000 units, press enter, select the top horizontal line and take offset in upward direction.
• Using the line tool draw the parapet wall of 125 unit thickness.
• Type ST in command box, press enter, select arial as font name with the text height 200 units and select set current followed by ok.
• Type MTEXT in command box, press enter, specify first corner and opposite corner and type text content.
• Type CO in command box, press enter, select base point and copy it to required position.
• Type ED in command box select the text and edit the text as per requirement.
• Type DIMLIN in command box and press enter.
• Specify first extension origin, second extension origin and give dimensions to lines.
• Move the cursor over grip of extension line and select continuous option and continue the dimensions for adjacent lines.
• Type LT in command box and press enter.
• Select the load option from line type dialog box and select the center line option and ISO02W100 lines from dialog box.
• Select the multileader tool from leader panel of annotate tab and add multileaders at required position using 3 point and five points multileader.
• Add leader wherever required using add leader tool..
• Select the line type as ISO02W100 and draw the hidden slab of chhajja for windows.
• Again, select the line as ISO02W100 and draw the section lines.
• Type LA in command box and press enter.
• Layer manager dialog box will open.
• Add new layer in layer manager dialog box, give them names and assign them different colors.
• Select each component of plan having similar functions and add them in respective layers as shown in fig.

Therefore, Plan, section AA and section BB is drawn using AutoCAD software by following the above mentioned procedure as shown below.
