Creating a Layout, Section and Elevation with dimensions using AutoCad

1.SECTION

Aim: TO draw the plan as shown in the figure above, in AutoCAD.

Introduction: The plan is created in AutoCAD using primarily the XLine and Line tools. the dimensions and text are provided With the use Of layers. The procedure Of drawing is explained in detail With diagrams Of each Step and the final result is given.

Procedure:

STEP 1

1. Go to START MENU. select AutoCAD.
2. In the command line type in: STARTUP [ENTER]
3. Enter 'UNITS' command in the command tab.
4. In the Drawing Units dialog box. select 'Decimal' in Type: ' O' in Precision: and 'Millimeters' in Insertion scale.
5. Click on '0K'.
6. Set the limits by entering LIMITS in the Command tab. The lower-left corner is specified as 0,0: and the upper-right corner is specified as 30000,30000.
7. Enter 'UNITS' command in the command tab.

STEP 2

1. Click on 'Layer Properties' in the Layer panel on the Ribbon.
2. Click on 'New Layer' to create the following layers - Doors and Windows: Walls; Stairs: Columns: and Dimension and Text.
3. Specify different colors for the different layers and then close the Layer Properties manager dialog box.

STEP 3

1. To begin drawing. select the Walls layer as the default layer in the Layer panel.
2. Select the Construction Line tool by entering 'XLINE' command in the command tab.
3. Draw two lines, one vertical and the Other horizontal, both intersecting at a point.
4. Press Esc to cancel the XLINE.
5. Select the Trim tool by entering 'TR command in the command tab.
6. Press ENTER.
7. Select Edge option; and click on NO Extend.
8. Select the extruted lines.
9. Press Esc to cancel the TRIM command.
10. Select the Offset tool by entering OFFSET' command in the command tab.
11. As thickness Of external wall is 250, enter 250 as offset distance in the command line.
12. Select both the vertical and horizontal lines Of the above drawing.
13. Specify the next point on the desired side to offset.
14. The vertical Xlines are offsetted to distances as per the given room dimensions and wall thickness.
15. The horizontal Xlines are offsetted to distances as per the given room dimensions and wall thickness.
16. Press Esc to cancel the OFFSET command.
17. The unwanted portion lines are trimmed Off using the TRIM command.
18. Once all the external wall have been created, next the internal wall are drawn.
19. Select the Offset tool by entering OFFSET command in the command tab.
20. Specify the offset distance. Select the line to offset and click on the direction we need the line in.
21. While offsetting, the thickness Of the internal walls is specified to be 75 and 150.
22. Press Esc to cancel the OFFSET command.
23. Select the Trim tool by entering TR command in the command tab.
24. Press ENTER.
25. Select Edge option; and click on NO Extend.
26. Select the extruted lines.
27. Press Esc to cancel the TRIM command.

STEP 4

1. Then the lines are Trimmed. Erased. and Extended to edit the drawing as per requirement.
2. To draw doors, select the Doors and windows layer as the default layer in the Layer panel.
3. Select the Line tool by entering 'LINE' command in the command tab.
4. Draw doors at the specified positions.
5. Door D is created With a width Of 1000.
6. Press Esc to cancel the LINE command.
7. Select the Line tool by entering 'LINE' command in the command tab.
8. Door DI is created With a width Of 800.
9. Press Esc to cancel the LINE command.
10. Select the Line tool by entering 'LINE' command in the command tab.
11. Door D2 is created With a width Of 900.
12. Press Esc to cancel the LINE command.
13. To draw the windows, Select the Line tool by entering LINE' command in the command tab.
14. Window WI is created With a width Of 900.
15. Press Esc to cancel the LINE command.
16. Select the Line tool by entering LINE' command in the command tab.
17. Window W2 is created With a width Of 1200.
18. Press Esc to cancel the LINE command.
19. Select the Line tool by entering 'LINE' command in the command tab.
20. Window W3 is created With a width Of 1500.
21. Press Esc to cancel the LINE command.
22. Select the Line tool by entering 'LINE' command in the command tab.
23. Window W4 is created With a width Of 600.
24. Press Esc to cancel the LINE command.
25. For stair case drawing, select the Stairs layer as the default layer in the Layer panel.
26. Select the Offset tool by entering O command in the command tab.
27. Specify an offset distance Of 1200, then click on the desired Side.
28. Repeat offset for distances 2000.1200, and 250 to create the staircase.
29. Press Esc to cancel the OFFSET command.
30. Select the Column layer.
31. Select the Line tool by entering 'LINE' command in the command tab.
32. Draw a column Of domension 250 x 350.
33. Press Esc to cancel the LINE command.
34. Select the Copy tool by entering 'CO' command In the command tab.
35. Copy the colum created before to the desired locations.
36. Press Esc.
37. Enter 'H' in the command line, select AR-CONC pattern and pick point inside the columns.
38. Press Esc
39. Select the Trim tool by entering 'TR command in the command tab.
40. Press ENTER.
41. Select Edge option; and click on NO Extend.
42. Select the unwanted lines.
43. Press Ese to cancel the TRIM command.

STEP 5

1. Select the Line tool by entering 'LINE' command in the command tab.
2. Draw lines depicting the section lines A-A & B-B.
3. Press Esc.
4. GO to Properties and change line type to long dash short dash.
5. Select the Dimension and Text layer as the default layer in the Layer panel.
6. Enter DST' command In the command tab to open the Dimension Style Manager dialog box.
7. Click on the Modify tab.
8. under the Lines option change the colour Of the dimension and extension lines.
9. under the Symbols and Arrows option change the Arrow size to 200.
10. under the Text option change the Text height to 200.
11. Click 0K. Then click on Set Current and Close the dialog box.
12. Select the Dimension tool by entering 'DIM' in the command line.
13. Select the first point and second point Of the Object to be measured, then drag the dimension line to the desired location. Repeat for all the objects to be measured.
14. Enter 'MTEXT command in the command line.
15. Specify the Start point Of text as required.
16. Scale the text to the desired size.
17. Copy the text box to wherever necessary.
18. Enter ED in the command promt and edit the text boxes as required.
19. Click Enter and press Esc.
20. Save the drawing.

2. SECTION A-A

STEP 1

1. Select the Construction Line tool by entering 'XLINE command in the command tab.
2. Enter V.
3. Draw projection lines from the plan creted in Step 1.
4. Enter H.
5. Draw a horizontal line at a suitable distance.
6. Press Esc
7. Select the Trim tool by entering 'TR command in the command tab.
8. Press ENTER.
9. Select Edge option; and click on NO Extend.
10. Select the extruted lines.
11. Press Ese to cancel the TRIM command.
12. Select the Offset tool by entering OFFSET' command in the command tab.
13. Create offsets according to the given drawing.
14. The vertical Xlines are offsetted to distances as per the given room dimensions and wall thickness.
15. The horizontal Xlines are offsetted to distances as per the given room dimensions and wall thickness.
16. Press Ese to cancel the OFFSET command.

19. Select the Trim tool by entering TR command in the command tab.
20. Press ENTER.
21. Select Edge option; and click on NO Extend.

Press Esc- to cancel the TRIM command.

STEP 2

1. Select the Trim tool by entering 'TR command in the command tab.
2. Press ENTER.
3. Select Edge option; and click on NO Extend.
4. Select the unwanted lines.
5. Press Esc to cancel the TRIM command.
6. Select the Line tool by entering 'LINE' command in the command tab.
7. Draw stairs having rise Of 143.75 and tread Of 250.
8. Press Esc.
9. Select the Copy tool by entering CO' command In the command tab.
10. Copy the stairs several times to create the flight Of stairs.
11. Press Esc.
12. Select the flight Of stairs created and assign it to the Stairs layer.

1. Select the Offset tool by entering •OFFSET command in the command tab.
2. Create offsets according to the given drawing for the doors and windows. the height oe door is taken as 2100, and the height Of Window is taken to be 600 for the smaller window and 1200 for the bigger window.
3. Press Esc
4. Select the Trim tool by entering 'TR command in the command tab.
5. Select Edge option; and click on NO Extend.
6. Select the unwanted lines.
7. Press Ese to cancel the TRIM command.
8. Assign the diferent objects to their respective layers.
9. Select the Line tool by entering 'LINE' command in the command tab.
10. Draw the new section line.
11. Press Esc.
12. GO to Properties and change line type to long dash short dash.
13. Select the Dimension tool by entering 'DIM' in the command line.
14. Select the first point and second point Of the Object to be measured, then drag the dimension line to the desired location. Repeat for all the objects to be measured.
15. Enter 'MTEXT command in the command II ne.
16. Specify the Start point Of text as required.
17. Scale the text to the desired size.
18. Copy the text box to wherever necessary.
19. Enter ED in the command promt and edit the text boxes as required.
20. Click Enter and press Esc.
21. In Annotate panel. go to Multileader Style manager, selct the standard option, click on Modify and make necessary changes, click 0K and Set current.
22. Select the Multileader tool and create multileaders wherever required as per the given drawing.

3.SECTION B-B

STEP 1

1. Select the Construction Line tool by entering 'XLINE' command in the command tab.
2. Enter H.
3. Draw projection lines from the plan creted in Step 1.
4. Enter V.
5. Draw a horizontal line at a suitable distance.
6. Press Esc
7. Select the Trim tool by entering 'TR command in the command tab.
8. Press ENTER.
9. Select Edge option; and click on NO Extend.
10. Select the extruted lines.
11. Press Esc to cancel the TRIM command.
12. Select the Offset tool by entering OFFSET' command in the command tab.
13. Create offsets according to the given drawing.
14. The vertical Xlines are offsetted to distances as per the given room dimensions and wall thickness.
15. The horizontal Xlines are offsetted to distances as per the given room dimensions and wall thickness.
16. Press Esc- to cancel the OFFSET command.

19. Select the Trim tool by entering TR command in the command tab.

STEP 2

1. Select the Trim tool by entering 'TR command in the command tab.
2. Press ENTER.
3. Select Edge option; and click on NO Extend.
4. Select the unwanted lines.
5. Press Esc to cancel the TRIM command.
6. Select the Offset tool by entering OFFSET' command in the command tab.
7. Create offsets according to the given drawing for the doors and windows. the height oe door is taken as 2100, and the height Of Window is taken to be 600 for the smaller window and 1200 for the bigger window.

19. Select the first pont and second point Of the Object to be measured, then drag the dimension line to the desired location. Repeat for all the objects to be measured.
20. Enter 'MTEXT command in the command II ne.
21. Specify the Start point Of text as required.
22. Scale the text to the desired size.
23. Copy the text box to wherever necessary.
24. Enter ED in the command promt and edit the text boxes as required.
25. Click Enter and press Esc.
26. In Annotate panel, go to Multileader Style manager, selct the standard option, click on Modify and make necessary changes, click 0K and Set current.
27. Select the Multileader tool and create multileaders wherever required as per the given drawing.
28. Save the drawing.
