Creating 3D Isometric view of various structural elements in AutoCAD
1) AIM: To
PROCEDURE:
- Open cad application in the pc and set all the limits required.
- Set the units as required for drawing. Set units in Engineering and scale in Inches.
- Now here we have to change the model space from Drafting to 3D modeling.
- Once you go for 3d modeling a new axis will appear in the UCS icon.
- Here in that new axis 'Z' the all the thickness of extrude goes.
- Go to layers and create different layers for each building items.
- Give different colors for each element.
- Go to top view and draw the plan using LINE command.
- Keep ortho on for accurate lines.
- Once after completing the wall now draw the window.
- Select the rectangle command and draw the window.
- Now here we have to extrude the wall and window so make a boundary using boundary command.

- The above dialogue box will appear. Select the region option in Object type.
- After all the options select the Pick points option.
- In drawing select the wall inner lines and a Region will appear.
- To check the regions go to shaded visual style.
- While doing region of wall don't select the window part let it be unregioned.
- Now go to South West view and select the extrude command.
- Select the region to be extruded and select the direction.
- Then type the height as mentioned.
- Once the wall is reached to slab bottom level then start with the window part.
- There is a rectangle in the plan for window, so extrude it till sill level.
- Select UCS option and change the X and Y axis direction so that we can draw a rectangle in the wall top.
- To extrude it till window or lintel bottom level.
- After extruding the wall till sill and lintel bottom now we have to make it union.
- Select the union option and select the walls that have to be combined.
- Then press entre the walls will be made as one.
- Now we have to draw the slab and plinth.
- In 3D view select rectangle and draw a rectangle in the outer line of wall.
- Then give the appropriate layer and extrude it by giving negative indication before thickness.
- Then again select rectangle and draw in the top of wall and do same as done for plinth.
- Now we have to do the window panels and frames.
- Change the UCS as required and draw the rectangle.
- Select the offset command and show the thickness.
- Create a REGION using boundary command as done before.
- Here we have to subtract the region that intersects with the other panels.
- Select subtract and select the region from which the subtraction has to be done.
- Next select the region which has to be subtracted then press entre the subtractions will be done.
- Do this for the entire region and then extrude w.r.t thickness and move inside or outside as required.
- The 3D model of the given plan is ready and then plot it using layout and save as pdf.

- Now go to South West view and select the extrude command.
- Select the region to be extruded and select the direction.
- Then type the height as mentioned.
- Here we are doing only 1 floor because all the other are typical.
- There is a rectangle in the plan for window, so extrude it till sill level.
- Select ucs option and change the X and Y axis direction so that we can draw a rectangle in the wall top.
- Draw the rectangle in the top of the wall that has been done till sill level.
- Then using move command selects the rectangle and selects the base point.
- Then entre the height of the window then again extrude till the wall height.
- Once the one floor work is completed then using Copy command make all the remaining floors.
- Now we have to do the window panels and frames.
- Change the UCS as required and draw the rectangle.
- Select the offset command and show the thickness.
- Create a REGION using boundary command as done before.

- Do this for the entire region and then extrude w.r.t thickness and move inside or outside as required.
- AT the end we have to do the column and beam of given dimension.
- The UCS for this is correctly aligned so draw the rectangle of given dimension.
- Using line command creates the path by drawing a line through the column and beam.
- Now select SWEEP command and select the object or rectangle that has to be extruded.
- Select the line as path then the solid element will appear.
- Then using the layout does the plotting and save it as required.

- Go to Front view in the UCS view.

- Select the line command and draw the side of staircase.
- Draw 2 steps and select the copy command and copy till the landing.
- Then draw the landing line and draw the waist slab.
- Now do the boundary of the staircase.

- The above dialogue box will appear. Select the region option in Object type.
- After all the options select the Pick points option.
- In drawing select the staircase and a Region will appear.
- To check the region goes to shaded visual style.
- Then go back to South West view and extrude the staircase as per given width.
- Now we have to do the railing and balusters’ so select the rectangle and draw a box.
- Extrude the box as per given height. Then copy the railings for all steps till landing.
- Then draw the line through all the railings and give the required width.
- Then make a extraction and the railing is done.
- Make sure all the things are done with the respective layers.
