- Provide the empirical formula for Pile Load.
AIM:
HERE I AM GOING TO EXPLAIN ABOUT THE STEP THE EMPIRICAL FORMULA FOR PILE LOAD
Pile caps create a stable foundation and offer a larger area for the distribution of the building load onto the piles. They act in a similar way to piled raft foundations, where a concrete slab rests on soil which may be susceptible to movement, above a group of piles.
PILE DIAMETRE Dp = 1.0 M
NUMBER OF PILE n = 4
PILE NO PILE 1 PILE 2 PILE 3 PILE 4
X-COORDINATE LONG M rL 1.9 1.9 -1.9 -1.9
Y-COORDINATE TRANSVERSE M rL 1.5 -1.5 1.5 -1.5
MAXIMUM /MINIMUM NORMAL FORCE IN PILE:
PILE LOAD = P/N ±(My*×/Sx²)±(Mx*y/Sy²)
2.Describe the design philosophies of mono piles & group piles
AIM :
HERE I AM GOING TO EXPLAIN ABOUT THE DESIGN PHILOSOPHIES OF MONO PILES AND GROUP PILES.
The mono pile foundation is a simple construction The foundation consists of a steel pile with a diameter of between 3.5 and 4.5 metres. The pile is driven some 10 to 20 metres into the seabed depending on the type of underground.
"It's a reliable and simple technology that is quick and cheap to fabricate and install." The monopile, however, is neither perfect nor a universal solution. It requires extra scour protection around its base and the noisy piling has attracted installation restrictions.
A method to calculate the vertical bearing capacity, considering the soil-arching effect, is proposed. In addition, a method to calculate the lateral displacement, based on the shell theory, is proposed. The applicability of the proposed method is verified using laboratory experiments. The result shows that the vertical ultimate bearing capacity.
- Piles could be provided as a single pile called as monopile or as a group of piles.
- Monopiles are preferred in location where piling is very difficult and multiple pile casting may delay the project.
for example in sea links where sea bed is more than 25-30m below top of pile or if sea bed has a hard rocky strata.
ORIENTATION
- Orientation of piles in multiple pile group is kept eccentric with respect to the pier to cater permanent differential moments,
- This could be due to differential span length on either side of pier or span of different material or in case cantilever piers.
- Making the center of gravity of pile group with centre of gravity of eccentric load reduces the push /pull load eeffects in piles.
- Pile have too be properly socketed in rocky strata since the loading is mainly transferred through end bearing and there is a possibility of crrushing of pile bottom tip due to such heavy load.
- loads in 1.2m diameter pile could be as high as 500T.
- Centre to centre spacing between pile ranges from 2D to 3D.
- Lesser spacing adopted for pile in rock.
