Challenge

Bird Strike - Project - 2

AIM:

In this challenge, we need to a create simulation of a Bird crashing with the Fan Blades of an Aeroplane Propeller.

Theory:

Jet engine ingestion is extremely serious due to the rotation speed of the engine fan and engine design. As the bird strikes a fan blade, that blade can be displaced into another blade and so forth, causing a cascading failure.
A survey held by ICAO including data from 91 countries found out that airlines face an average of 34 bird strikes in a day. The damage, if translated to money amounts to more than $1 billion annually. However, a relieving fact is that almost 92 percent of the airstrikes are without any damage

In this project, we are going to analyze the Blade of a plane, how it's reacting for a Bird model.

 PROCEDURE:

     1. Bird - Hexa Meshed model, which will represent the Bird for this simulation.

          2. Hub - This will connect the Blade with Rotor.

      3. Blades - These blades will have rotational motion, which provides the necessary thrust.

        4. Casing - This is the Outer Cover for the Blades.

Material need to be created for all parts.

MAT_24 is given in question for BIRD

Create SECTION_SHELL for bird/casing/Bird ....SOLID for HUB

               Create INITIAL _VELOCITY for Bird-Blade

                 Create CONTACT for all parts.

                  Create DATABASE

                    Create CONTROL_Termination.

                  Create DEFINE_CURVE.

Create BOUNDARY_SPCSET for casing to avoid movable

Need to create RENUMBERING FOR ALL PARTS.

              This ERROR_need toobe Rectified.

   CONCLUSION:

In this Simulation, Bird is Assigned with Elastic Material and with general Properties, thus the results Obtained From the simulation can not be compared with the Real-time Data. Generally, The Bird will be modeled with Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), which replicates the simulation similar to the real Bird. The Material Properties might vary according to the Blades used By different organizations and it can be solved and results can be compared. Mass Scaling is performed and obtained the results are maintained as less than 8%. All the subsystems were created and included with the Main file. Transient-non linear bird strike application is done by using LS-Dyna. The contour plots and global results are sketched.
