Benchmarking in Automobile Sector
Benchmarking :-
Benchmarking is a process of measuring the performance of a company's products, services and processes against those of another business considered to be the best in the industry. The point of benchmarking is to identify internal opportunities for improvement. By studying companies with superior performance, breaking down what makes such superior performance possible and then comparing those processes to know how your business operates and implement required necessary changes for significant improvement.
In the automobile industry, benchmarking involves structured comparison between similar products, services on some dimensions of performance. It can be used to compare the availability and delivery of the features in a product & in this form often provides the basics of consumer tests and their reviews. This can help to have better comparisons with the competitors products.
There are two basic improvement opportunities that is continuous and dramatic.
Continuous improvement is incremental, involving only smaller adjustments to reap sizeable advances.
Dramatic improvement can only come through re-engineering the whole work process.
Benchmarking involves five major steps :-
1) Choose a product, service and internal department to benchmark.
2) Determine best in class companies to benchmark against your product and organization.
3) Gathering information on merits and performance.
4) Compare data of your product and competitor to identify the gap and fullfill it by R&D.
5) Adopting standard technics and processes for good quality control and efficiency.
Benefits of Benchmarking:-
In addition to helping companies better profitability and efficiency, it has following other benefits too
> Improving employee understanding regarding the process and structure.
> Encourage Team Building and cooperation.
> Enhancing better skills for betterment of the company as well as individual also.
