What is Benchmarking?

  • Benchmarking is the process involved in automotive industry to analysi or compare between similar product, service or processes on some dimension of performance.
  • Generally it is process of comparing service or performance of any product agaist our compatitor.
  • It is the process of comopany business to analyze the processes and performance metrics from other companies and standards.

Types of Benchmarking:

Benchmarking1: It is used for companies for comparing of the price, features and segments.

Benchmarking2: It is used for comparing the features of individual componets.

As a comapany the first thing is to make benchmarking to make things better and strong. As organisation first step is make benchmarink and compare the porduct against their comapatitor. This will help the organisation to make a better and strong impact of thier product in the ongoing market.

Where can Benchmarking be appplied?

These is a process between,

  • Different factories or service branches
  • competing organization
  • Different sectores using the same process
  • Similar process in the same factory or service branches.

Lets take case study for Benchmarking:

Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.

Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars

List of 5 SUV'S in current market

Model Transmission Fuel Mileage Saftey Rating

Power(bhp@rpm)

Torque(Nm@rpm) Price(Lacs)
KIA Seltos HTE 1.5 Manual Petrol 16.5kmpl 3/5 113bhp@6300rpm 144Nm@4500rpm 10.19
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Lxi Manual Petrol 20.15kmpl 3/5 102bhp@6000rpm 136.8Nm@4400rpm 8.35
Mahindra Bolero neo Manual Diesel 17.29kmpl NA 100bhp@3750rpm 260Nm@1750rpm 9.29
Hyundai Venue SX 1.5 CRDi Manual Diesel 23.4kmpl 2/5 99bhp@4000rpm 240Nm@1500rpm 10.00
Tata Nexon XMA Automatic Diesel 22.07kmpl 5/5 108bhp@4500rm 260Nm@1500rpm 10.24

Conlusion:

  • Mr. Pughal needs a 5 seater with buget fall between 8-10Lakhs and better Milage
  • So, Lets take ertiga which as a better milage in the above list and as well as good power and torque even price is best as pughal expected, but comapared to Hyundai, Hyundai as even more better Milage.
  • Both ertigal and Venue are same compared to tranmission and the fuel type varies.
  • Kia has the least milage in the list, but other than milage all the other specification are better than both ertiga and venues, the only setback is milage. KIA is better in outlook also it a good style finish.
  • When talking about Mahindra, its a old brand and as good customer feedback. The specification is same as Kia
  • When talking about Tata Nexon it has even more feature and spectification compared to all the other four vehicle.
  • Nexon is with automatic transmission with 10.24 lacs. When compaerd to other brand automatic transmission it has a best pricing.
  • When comparing on milage on the above list ertial, Hyundai and Nexon Takes the top three and as well as price.
  • Ertiga and Venue has same manual transmission where as Nexon as Automatic.
  • Milage wise Venue take top but saftey wise it is at the bottom. So lets take away the Hyundai Venue, Rather than milage price saftey is more important.
  • Hyundai venue as no seat beat wearing and also no child seat anchor point so it falls low in safety.
  • Nexon has automatic transmission, which is easy to use and comfortable for the driver.
  • Nexon has 5 out 5 in saftey ratating by Global NCAP
  • Milage wise also it looks better.

So Mr. Pughal can buy Tata Nexon XMA varient, but it falls above the pughal buget. Its good afford 10.24 lacks for good milage, this kind of transmission type and better safety rating.

I suggest Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii to take on Tata Nexon XMA varient.
