Benchmarking

BENCHMARKING:

Benchmarking is a process of measuring the performance of a company’s products, services, or processes against those of another business considered to be the best in the industry called as the “best in class.” The point of benchmarking is to identify internal opportunities for improvement. By studying companies with superior performance, breaking down what makes such superior performance possible, and then comparing those processes to how your business operates, you can implement changes that will yield significant improvements. That might mean tweaking a product’s features to more closely match a competitor’s offering, or changing the scope of services you offer, or installing a new customer relationship management (CRM) system to enable more personalized communications with customers.

There are two basic kinds of improvement opportunities: continuous and dramatic. Continuous improvement is incremental, involving only small adjustments to reap sizeable advances. Dramatic improvement can only come about through reengineering the whole internal work process.

STEPS IN BENCHMARKING

  • Choose a product, service, or internal department to benchmark
  • Determine which best-in-class companies you should benchmark against – which organizations you’ll compare your business to
  • Gather information on their internal performance, or metrics
  • Compare the data from both organizations to identify gaps in your company’s performance
  • Adopt the processes and policies in place within the best-in-class performers

Benchmarking will point out what changes will make the most difference, but it’s up to you to actually put them in place.

BENCHMARKING OF FOUR CARS:

Since Mr.Pughazyendhii is fond of big cars here are some of the compact SUV's chosen for benchmarking. Since he uses his car in a busy traffic Bangalore city and go for a long drive which is 500km away the mileage and the comfort spacing of the cars are taken into considerations.

1) KIA SONET 1.2 HTE DIESEL:

KIA SONET is a new model of compact SUV's that are available in the market. Here are some of the considerations that are taken for benchmarking.

  • Price - 9.9L
  • Fuel: Diesel
  • Mileage: 18-24 Kmpl (ARAI)
  • Boot space: 392 L

The KIA SONET car is available with both petrol and Diesel. But I have chosen Diesel because the mileage considerations of the car has been taken into account, since diesel cars give more mileage than the petrol cars. It has been recorded that the car gives a mileage of about 19-24 km in the onroad conditions which is a very good mileage. Then coming to the boot size the car could accomodate 392 L of volume which is a very good volume that gives a very good spacing for the passengers as well as to carry more luggages since they have a long travel frequently. Since the car is a Diesel Vehicle the maintenance requirements of the car is quite expensive compared to a Diesel Vehicle.

2) MARUTHI SUZUKI VITARA BREZZA ZXI:

The Maruthi suzuki vitara brezza model is also a good option available in the market with good specifications. Now let us have discuss about it.

  • Price : 10.07 L
  • Fuel: Petrol
  • Mileage : 17.03 Kmpl
  • Boot size: 328 L

The Maruthi Suzuki Vitara Brezza ZXI is a petrol car chosen that best suits within the available budget. Since it is a Petrol Car the maintenance requirements is less compared to the diesel vehicle. Then it gives a mileage of about 15-17 kmpl on onroad conditions and the boot size of the car is aroud 352 L which is a compact volume.

3) NEXON XE DIESEL:

The Tata Nexon Diesel is a another compact SUV model available in the model.

  • Price : 10.18 L
  • Mileage : 17-21.5 Kmpl
  • Fule: Diesel
  • Boot size : 352 L

The chosen Tata Nexon is a Diesel vehicle considering the budget and theb mileage constrains of the vehicle. It gives a Mileage of about 17-21 Kmpl which is good compared to other Vitara Brezza. It also have a Boot size of 352 L which is compact sized SUV. It is Six geared vehicle with good performance and pick up compared to other two.

4) FORD ECOSPORT AMBIENT DIESEL:

The Ford Ecosport is the next SUV car model chosen for Benchmarking. Here are some of the observations made fro the benchmarking done.

  • Price : 10.20 L
  • Mileage : 21.7 Kmpl
  • Fuel: Diesel
  • Boot size : 352L

The Ford ecosport gives a sporty look to the car and people who are fond of sport look could prefer this car since it has a good mileage of 21.7 Kmpl on road conditions and the performance are in no where less than the other cars. It is also a Diesel car chosen because of the mileage constrain. The available boot size of the car is around 352L which is compact in structure and gives a sporty look to the car.

CONCLUSIONS:

Comparing the above four car SUV models it is concluded that the KIA SONET car is prefered because it is a diesel vehicle with good mileage and has a good boot size of about 392 L compared to other SUV's discussed. This gives a good comfort drive to the passengers since there are lot of volume to occupy and could carry more luggages than other models. As the budget is also within the customer's limit I would prefer Mr.Pughazyendhii to buy a KIA SONET car. If he is very fond of sporty look appeareance he could also prefer FORD ECOSPORT because it is also having same mileage and a Diesel vehicle but the only constrain is with the boot volume and that too if the customer is ok with it he could also prefer Ford Ecosport as his option. But as of the Benchmarking done I would prefer Mr.Pughazyendhii to own a KIA SONET compact SUV vehicle as his option.
