ULTIMATE SOLID WORKS COURSE

MODELLING OF SUNSEEKER PREDATOR YACHT

SUBMITTED BY

Mr. S P RANJITH

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this project is to model a Sunseeker Predator yacht which is a part of the Ultimate Solid Works course in Skill Lync. The ultimate aim is to understand the concepts of surface and solid modeling using Solid Works 2019 version. In this project the surface modeling of model done and it was very challenging to model this and converting it to a solid model. This type of modeling is mainly used in the Automotive Industries to model the parts of the automotive whether it is an solid structures or surface structures. Hence this course helped me to understand the concepts of modeling and its signifance.

INTRODUCTION

In the modeling of a Yacht the individual components are modeled using Solid Works 2019 version. In this project there are about 9 models like Front seat, Rear Seat, Middle Seat, Propeller, Garage Door, Radar, Radar mast, Hull and Superstructure. All these are assembled to form a complete Yacht Assembly. Then some Decals are applied on the hull and other parts to have a realistic appearance of the assembly using photo view 360. Then the realistic rendering of the Yacht Model was done using Solidworks Visualize.

METHODOLOGY AND DESIGN DESCRIPTION

As discussed above all the components are modeled separately and assembled to obtain the assembly model.

  • Propeller

First the propeller model was designed. This is a solid model designed using features like Sketch Tools (line, Circle, spline etc…) surface loft, Revolve, Extrude Cut, Circular patterns and some fillets were applied. Then the appearance were applied to have exact look of the model.

  • Radar

Then the Radar part was designed. In this features like extrude, cut extrude, mirror and fillet feature were used. Then the Split line feature is used to split the model into exact two halves and then using this the text was printed as “Ranjith Yacht”.

  • BLUE PRINT

This is used as the base for designing the model since the dimensions are defined based on this picture only. This is created by using Sketch Picture feature.

  • HULL

This forms the basic structure of the yacht model. This is initially drawn using sketch tools and the Blue prints created. Then the surface features like Surface loft, Surface fill, Surface Trim, Surface Knit, Surface Extend, Surface Sweep and Surface Extend. This is the basis of the surface modeling. This has to be modeled without any extra surfaces or without knitting, otherwise the surface model cannot be converted into a Solid Model using Merge Entities and Knit Surface option. Then some Decals were applied to have appearance for the Hull structure.

  • Garage Door

The Hull is a solid model modeled using the blue prints created. Here the solid model features like Extrude, Cut Extrude and fillets were used. Then some appearance was used for the Garage Door. Then Sketch Entities were used to make that sketch on the solid model.

  • Front Seat

This is a surface structure modeled using the hull and blue prints as the reference. Hence the features of Surface loft, knit, trim, extend, extrude and some fillets were used to obtain the exact shape of the Front seat.

  • Middle Seat

This is a surface structure modeled using the hull and blue prints as the reference. Hence the features of Surface loft, knit, trim, extend, extrude and some fillets were used to obtain the exact shape of the Middle seat.

  • Rear Seat

This is a surface structure modeled using the hull and blue prints as the reference. Hence the features of Surface loft, knit, trim, extend, extrude and some fillets were used to obtain the exact shape of the Rear seat.

  • Super Structure

This is one of the most complicated model to design using the Surface model. This was very challenging and interesting to model because most of the concepts of the surface models were learnt from this model. The same surface modeling features like extend, extrude, loft, sweep, fill, trim, knit and untrim options were used along with sketch tools and entities. Then mirror options and some fillets were used for designing this model. After forming the solid Structure the windows and handles were drawn by using features like extrude, cut extrude and sweep alone with many reference planes. Then some appearance was applied to have a realistic look.

  • Radar Mast

This is a solid structure modeled using the solid designing tools like extrude, cut extrude, revolve and mirror options. Then some fillets and chamfer were applied. This is also modeled by taking the reference of blue print and super structure.

ASSEMBLY OF YACHT MODEL

At the last all the modeled surface and solid parts are assembled to form the complete yacht structure. Some of the mate relations like coincident, concentric and tangent relations are used to obtain the fully defined model of the structure.

RENDERINGS

The renderings was done using Solid Works Visualize Software to obtain the realistic apprearance for the Yacht Model.

CONCLUSION

Thus the modeling of a yacht model has been done using Solid Works CAD modeling and Solid Works Visualize Software. Thus the Ultimate Solid Works has come to an end with the completion of this model.
