Automotive Benchmarking
Benchmarking is the process of comparison of similar products on some dimensions of performance.
For example, it can be used to compare the availability and delivery of features in a product and in this form often provides the basis of consumer tests and reviews.
These look at products and services and provide recommendations based on which is best form of ranking amongst all. It helps to analysis the company design and deliver better product to customer at competitive price and quality.
Purpose
The goal of benchmarking is to create new methods or improve current processes to meet that higher standard. It’s not a one-time effort. Rather, its another part of continuous process improvement that the best organizations commit to if they want to stay competitive.
Types
There are four main types of benchmarking: internal, external, performance, and practice.
Internal Benchmarking
Internal Benchmarking is a process in which a company or an organisation looks within its own business to try and determine the best practice or methodology for conducting a particular task.
External Benchmarking
External Benchmarking involvs comparing the subject comapny or property, to external organizations.
Performance Benchmarking
Performance Benchmarking is the process of measuring and analyzing an organizations performance of products, services, operations, and other business process against other comapnies, competitors, or industry leaders. It helps businesses identify and understand areas for improvement.
Practice Benchmarking
Practice Benchmarking involvs gathering and comparing qualitative information about how an activity is conducted through people, processes, and technology.
Pros & Cons
Pros : 1) Internal benchmarking allows you to repurpose something without reinventing the wheel.
2) Competitive research can get the creative juices flowing.
Cons : 1)You could miss out on a better solution.
