Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.

Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars

Considering all the requirements of Mr. Pughazhyendhii. I mainly consider safety, Bangalore traffic, budget and his interest in big cars. I have chosen the following four cars.

Tata nexon

Engine

The tata nexon comes in both diesel and petrol. The petrol version gets the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine but it makes 118 bhp, with the torque output at 170 Nm. The diesel version comes with a 1.5-litre motor that continues to make the same 108 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. There is a noticeable turbo lag in the lower revs, and that can be a bit frustrating in stop-and-go traffic, which not a good option in metropolitan cities.

Design

The Tata nexon follows the new tri-arrow design theme which gives the car a unique and aggressive look. The elements that adds to bold front look is underlined by new projector headlamps with LED DRLs, new fog lamps with C-shaped chrome elements, revamped bumper, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, tri-arrow LED tail lamps and more.

Interior: For the interior also the SUV follows the tri-arrow theme with three layered tone finish giving the premium look to the cabin. Along with automatic climate control, the Nexon also comes with rear AC vents, adjustable headrest, and also there is an electric sunroof as well. It also has the 7-inch touchscreen display with an updated infotainment system featuring Apple Car Play, Android Auto.

Features and safety

The Tata nexon has very high safety standards, it has dual airbags, ABS with EBD, electric traction control, and rear parking camera with guidelines and many.

Also have hill hold and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

Pros

5-star Safety rating from Global NCAP

A spacious cabin with an optional sunroof

Creta

Engine

The new Hyundai Creta also follows its existing version of of 1.4-litre turbo GDI petrol with 3 cylinders. With the 138bhp the turbo engine makes 242Nm torque. The transmission of 7 speed DCT will be provided for this turbo 1.4 litre.

Design

The updated creta gets a completely new design with the Hyundai’s “sensual sportiness” design. The much bolder front end has big cascading grill which looks stylish at present. The strips of LED daytime lights are placed above headlamps and below the fog lamps are placed. The rear end also changed completely with pronounced stance the silhouette provides a more SUV like look.

Interior

The interior of new Hyundai Creta is also revamped completely. The 1.4-litre turbo models get an all-black colour scheme. You also get a sense of space, even with the dark colours, thanks to the new design. The centrepiece is the new 10.24-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. The top end models also get a panoramic sunroof along with ambient lighting. A small digital display on the armrest for the rear passengers which is most unique feature.

Features

The new Hyundai Creta have smart watch app connectivity, electric parking brake ambient tyre pressure monitoring system. In addition to that creta gets three driving modes of eco, comfort and sport. When driving on different terrains these modes offer optimum traction.

Pros

New-gen Creta looks quite odd but is bigger than before

When it comes to fuel type and transmission many options are available.

Kia Seltos

Engine

The Kia seltos is also powered by 1.4-litre GDI turbo petrol that develops 138 bhp and 242 Nm torque, which is almost same as that of the Hyundai Creta. In contrast Kia seltos is paired with a 6 speed manual and 7 speed DCT automation transmission.

Design

The massive bold grille up front with the honeycomb mesh give the bold look to the all-new Kia Seltos. The sporty bumper and the angular silhouette gives the sportive feel.

Interior

The interior cabin of Kia Seltos comes with a neatly laid out dashboard that is covered with well-appointed materials including soft touch plastics, leather seats, and satin finished parts. In the front the SUV. The cabin on the Seltos is impressive mainly for two reasons. At first, it brings in a fresh appeal in terms of styling, layout, features, functions and gadgets. And it set a new bench marks for this segment.

Features and Safety

The safety tech adds six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, ESP, hill hold control and blind view monitor with a 360 degree camera. The car uses advanced high strength steel in its construction for improved safety. Including these outstanding features the Kia seltos have all the features of the remaining two cars which I consider above.

Pros:

Segment-First Features like Electric Driver Seat.

Comes With UVO Connected Car Technology

Powerful Turbo Petrol Engine.

Ford Ecosport:

Engine

The ford ecosport have 3 models at present with manual and automation in petrol and manual with diesel engine. The petrol motor with 1.5 litre, 3 cylinder can brings 118 bhp with 148 Nm of peak torque. And along with 5 speed manual transmission a 6 speed automatic gear box is optional. And 1.5 litre, four cylinder TDCi motor gets a 99 bhp and 215 Nm torque with five speed manual transmission.

Design:

Large front grille, comparatively large fog lamps, restyled bumpers, new roof rails, and a more strongly built hood. The higher stance also looks impressive in Indian roads. And a new 17 degree alloy with new pattern. I feel ford ecosport has a very good in design.

Cabin and Interior

The SUV has a cooled glove box, tilt steering dual airbags and ABS. The floating screen also placed very well so that there is no need to take off our eyes away from the road for the long time. It also have the sync voice command which will be very useful to work in tandem. The cabin also feels spacious.

Features and safety

It also have a six airbags, reverse camera and a reverse sensor. It also built strong with strong hood and new roof rails.

I suggest Kia Seltos. The first priority will always be safety while choosing a car for me. So I feel Kia Seltos has had few good safety features compared to other. It has six airbags which is absolutely a very good feature to have. And the cabin and interior also looks very classy and beautiful. The engine is similar for all the three cars I have chosen. The Creta and Kia Seltos are somewhat premium whereas Tata Nexon is economic.
