Benchmarking
BENCHMARKING
Benchmarking in the automotive industry basically means a structured comparison between similiar products, services or processes in some dimensions of performance. It is most beneficial in understanding where a product is lagging or over-achieving for that matter when compared to the standards in that particular segment.
Benchmarking can be carried out between :
- Similiar processes in the same factory or service branch.
- Different factories or service branch
- Different competing organisations
- Different sector using same products.
BENCHMARKING FOR 5 SEATER CARS FOR CUSTOMER
CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS
- Everyday commuting (High traffic area)
- Long drives once a month
- 5 seater with ample spacing
- Budget 8 - 10 lakhs on road

CONCLUSION
- Out of the 4 benchmarked cars, user defined criterias were used for elimination (highlighted in orange).
- Since they were a family of 5, the cars without sufficient rear bench spacings were eliminated. Although the boy is 5 year old now and assuming they do not switch cars often, for future proofing cars with spacious cabins were selected- Nissan Magnite & Tata Nexon
- Out these 2 cars, the safety ratings as well engine capacity was much better in Tata Nexon.
- Therefore I would reccomend Tata Nexon as it can meet their current as well as future requirements.
