Benchmarking
Benchmarking-
In vehicle development process, Benchmarking is the first and the most significant process in a pre design & development stage.
Benchmarking is the process of structural comparison of a company’s product features, performance & services against the similar product & services offered by the rivals which are considered to be the best in the industry.
The basic objective of benchmarking is to study of existing product & recognize the opportunities for improvement. It is about how we can implement the plus points offered by the competitors on our own product. Also we have to do carry over study (Carrying the positive features of a parent generation to the present generation.)
- Benchmarking 1 is used for comparing of the price, features and segments
- Benchmarking 2 is used for comparing the features of individual components.
In order to benchmark anything, one needs to have quantitative data available to study. After breaking down the internal processes to calculate performance metrics because only quantifiable information can be accurately compared.
After all the analysis & considerations, if there is any room for improvement that might result in tweaking a product’s features to match closely with what the competitor has to offer, or changing the scope of services you offer, or to enable more personalized communications with customers by installing a new customer relationship management (CRM) system.
There are 2 types of Benchmarking
- Internal Benchmarking
- External Benchmarking
They are further classified –
- Process Benchmarking
- Performance Benchmarking
- Strategic Benchmarking
