Benchmarking

Aim:- Benchmarking

Theory:-

Bencharking:-

Benchmarking is defined as the comparison of products, services, and processes across divisions that perform similar operations in the same organization, among competing firms in the same industry, and among firms with similar processes in different industries. The purpose of benchmarking is to investigate why and how organizations achieve higher levels of effectiveness and to identify the methods and processes that drive this performance. Benchmarking identifies the organization's relative cost position and identifies opportunities for improvement. Strategic advantage is achieved by focusing on the competencies needed to upgrade to a new performance level. Benchmarking has its origins in engineering as part of process improvement programs. This is traced back to efforts at the end of the last century, when it analyzed how Japanese firms could sell products at a price below its own production costs. Organizations engage in benchmarking exercises that focus on strategic management performance, competitive strategy, financial management, products, services, core business processes and functional processes. The most popular analysis methods used in metric benchmarking are data envelopment analysis and regression analysis.

Benchmarking Process:-

They are five types of Process.

1.Identifiy the components of benchmarks:-

The first step of any benchmarking process begins with identifying the components to be compared. It can be a product or commodity, the amount of a commodity supplied, or the amount of economic output. Once identified, it is easy to collect the relevant data and then contribute to the desired set of outputs.

2.Integrate opretional goal:-

This is one of the important steps of the benchmarking process, which involves setting the objectives of operations for organizational transformation. In this step, it is necessary to communicate the benchmarking results in the organizational structure and develop an action plan accordingly.

3.Analyze the components:-

This step involves data collection and analysis. This step of the benchmarking process helps to understand the best practices adopted by competitors and to analyze the difference in performance between two competing organizations. Moreover, it is the most effective way to resolve performance discrepancies.

4.Incropated the best pracatecise:-

At this step in the benchmarking process, benchmarking becomes fully institutionalized. This is where the strategies that are planned to be implemented to bring about change are implemented. This step requires the adoption of best practices identified through a benchmarking process to close negative performance gaps. The potential of the benchmarking process is realized only if it is fully integrated into all verticals of the organization.

5.Formulate the action plan:-

Now, the next step in the benchmarking process involves developing an action plan. This requires the creation of specific strategies and tactical decisions that can help implement new practices. In addition, the most important thing to do in this step is to identify the factors of obstacles to the successful implementation of the strategy, which is very essential to reap the benefits of benchmarking.
