Assignment 7

1) Tutorial 9:

Tutorial 9 provided explanation for converting a 4 cylinder model Detailed model into a Fast Running model. It was explained through 8 steps, with each step involved combining "n" number of parts into a single part or volume

Step 1:

A detailed model is chosen initially, which is required to be converter to FRM.

Step 2:

Parts involving with Exhaust system is converted into a single volume.

Step 3:

All parts in inlet manifold is converted into a single volume to reduce computing time.

Step 4:

Intercooler parts are converted to a single volume.

Step 5:

Parts from End inlet to compressor is converted to single volume.

Step 6:

Exhaust manifold parts are combined into a single volume.

Step 7:

"Additional changes" are done according to the tutorial PDF.

Step 8:

Cylinder Slaving is done and then the final FRM is ready for simulation.

2) FRM Model with the given specs:

A Fast Running model with the given specs is formed through the folowing specs.

Step 1:

Type of engine is chosen at the first step.

Step 2:

The cylinder geometry specifications are mentioned in this step.

Step 3:

The required type of Turbocharger is chosen in Step 3.

Step 4:

Number of cylinders required is chosen. Only two options are available as of now.

Step 5:

The required type of controller is chosen here.

Step 6:

The final model is shown above.

Simulating the model:

There are in total 25 cases included within this model as default.

Some of the results are shown below.

The image below shows the geomtery specs shown from the simulation results.

Highest Power output is obtained at 3500 rpm and highest torque was obtained at 3000 rpm.

Highest volumetric efficiency is obtained at 2500 rpm. It is 230%

BMEP is highest at 3000 rpm. It is 22 bar.

Highest Pressure output is obtained at 2500 rpm. The pressure output is 2.8 bar.
