Assignment 6-Frontal Crash Simulation Challenge
Frontal Crash Simulation
Aim :
To run the given model as per the given conditions and to note down the results during crash with rigid wall.
Objective :
To follow the steps given and run the analysis to get the animation and result files of Frontal Crash Analysis.
Procedure :
The procedure to be followed to run the analysis is given.
The unit system is set to kg, mm, ms.
Define the interface as Type 7. Type 7 is self impacting or the nodes and elements of the model will have contact between them.
It is recommended to keep the friction value as 0.2.
Check penetration and intersection in tools menu bar.
It is asked to increase the mass to 700kg and to place the COG in middle of the given model.
The velocity is given as 35mph and it is added as 15.64 mm/ms.
Finally check the model with model checker option which is available in tool bar.
It is asked to assign a time step value between 0.1 to 0.5 microseconds.
Set the run time of the model as 80ms.

The animation file is not included here because it is not under the acceptable limit. So attached below.
Cross section creation and output blocks :
1. To get the sectional force at node 174247 we have to create a cross section and make a output block.

This is the second cross section which we created in the model from the front end. the impulse force reaches the peak on both sides between 10 - 20 ms. The right end has the maximum force value and the created cross section is not exactly same at the opposite side.
2. To get the axial force received on the rails from bumper. We have to create a cross section and for results we have to create a output block.

The bumper area is the front end of the car so the first cross section is created at the bumber area. The impulse force reaches the peck on both sides before 10 ms. And the right side experiencing more force then the left for a period of time and at end the left side gets higher force than right side.
3. To get shortgun cross sectional forces we have to create a cross section at that location and we create a output block to view results.

Shot gun is the third cross section created in the given model. After a period of time there experiences the maximum in right side cross section. the maximum force value recorded on right is 8.7KN and left it is 4.3KN.
4. To create cross section in A pillar to get the axial force results. We create a output block for that.

The fourth cross section from the front end experiences peak impulse force at 10 ms and the force decreases after a period of time.
5. To get the acceleration curve received on accelerometer at base of B pillar rocker. We create a output block for that.

It is the motion of object under a velocity. The left side base has peak values when compared to right side of the given model.
6. Intrusions on the dash wall 66695, 66244. We create a spring and we define the property for that and we plot the elongation curve by using output block.

The elongation of spring in negative values say that it is compressed and 13604 has the lower value than the 13600
Final plots :
