Challenge

Assignment 2

Objective: To calculate speed and time for the given material and modify the engine file. Also, to create the 3D mesh for the given components

Q.1

C (Speed of sound in solid) = sqrt(Young's Modulus/Density)

For rail,

E = 210E+9 N/m2

Density = 7800 Kg/m3

Therefore, C = sqrt(210E+9/7800) = 5188 m/s

Q.2

Length of rail = 1000 mm = 1m

Shock wave speed = Sound speed in rail material (calculated above in Q.1) = 5188 m/s

Time required = Length / Speed

Time = 1/5188 = 0.1927 millisec

Q.3

Time required for sound wave to travel through rail (calculated above) = 0.1927 millisec

Q.4

Tstop changed from 60.00 to 0.1927

Q.5

ANIM_DT changed from 1.00 to 20.00

Q.6

changed \print from -10 to -15

NOTE: For Q.1 to Q.6, please refer to the attached Engine file.
