Assignment 2

1. Check the material properties of the rail component and calculate the speed of sound in steel rail=_______

ANS:

To calculate the speed of sound (c) we need values of E (youngs modules and value of Rho (density)

c= √(E / Rho)

E=210000

Rho= 0.0078

c= √(210000/0.0078)

c= √26923076.92

c=5188.74m/s

2. The length of the rail is about 1000 mm.calculate the time takes for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other

Ans:-

▲t=l/c

=1000/5188.74

=0.192725ms

3.Time for sound to travel length of rail=______

Ans:

=0.192725ms

4.Edit the engine file so that the stress wave can be monitored, moving from one end of the rail to the other during impact -this will require a termination time equal to the time it takes for the sound to travel the length of the rail(set on/RUN card)

Ans:

time it takes for the sound to travel the length of the rail= 0.192725

5.Set the frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animation steps(/ANIM/DT)

Ans:

6.Change /print -10

Ans:

7.

AIM:

To do 3d meshing tetra mesh and hex mesh in the given models.

GIVEN MODEL:

PROCEDURE:

MODEL 01: ARM BRACKET

Here we do hexa meshing

This model is divided into 4 parts :

Base part:

  • Here fist we should consider the base part of the model ,
  • here we should create a 2d meshing one surface and we can element offset that to ctreate total 3d meshing for the entire part by selecting the surfaces which we need .
  • for 2d meshing 2d> automesh slect the surface
  • for element offseting 3d>element offset> solid layers
  • here select the elements need to be offseted and seletct the surface till which wee need to offset and provide the num of layers value and total thickness value.

Arm curve part:

  • here as this part is a curved part we can use spin option here,
  • inorder to spin first we need to create a centre nod by doing geom>nodes>select lines >and make a arc centre .
  • then we should go 3d >spin > spin elements
  • here we need to slect the elements needs to be spined and then we should select the axis of spin and select the arc centre as base point.
  • then we should provide the angle as 90 as is geom demands and give the numper of elemnts need to be created in a row on on spin option.

Arm straight part:

  • Here we use linear solid option,
  • before going to linear solid option we need to work on this part we need to face the curve part component inorder to get the 2d shell elemt faces to do linear solid option.
  • here we go 3d> linear solids>
  • before that we need to 2d mesh the other side of the part to give the to elements option
  • after performing the 2d mesh in other side we can give the to elements as this elements.
  • here we need to give the alignment nodes to specify the aligning og nodes and provide density as 12 as the numper of elements created in the row

Boss part:

  • here we use solid map option in 3d
  • here first we need to mesh one of the side flat surafaces to show the elements
  • then go 3d>solid map>general
  • and select the source geom as none
  • select the dest geom as surface
  • select the 2d mesh created as the elements to drag
  • and select the along geom as mixed to show the path clearly.
  • and select the node path and we can click mesh

FINAL MODEL 01:

MODEL 02 : HOUSING:

Here we do tetra meshing:

This model is divided into two part

  • Here first we go 3d > tetra mesh> tetra mesh parameters
  • Here we give tertra size as 5 tetcollapse value as 0.15 also we shoild tick fill voids,fill midnides,and smoothing

  • Here we wo go to volume tetra and select the surfaces need to be meshed and give element size as 5 and select type as tetra .

  • here we get a proper tetra mesh in both parts
  • inorder to check tet collapse we go element check f10 and click tetcollapse and set value as 0.15
  • and we came to know that there is zero tetcollapse

FINAL MODEL 02:

RESULT:

Done 3d meshing tetra mesh and hex mesh in the given models.
