Assignment 1
PART 1
Objective:-
To perform various preprocessing activities to the given component using geometry cleanup, mid-surface, 2D meshing and elemental cleanup, and finally assigning the property and thickness to component as per the quality criteria.
Target element size- 5 mm
Minimum element size – 3.5 mm
Maximum element size – 7mm
Tools used:-
- Model import,
- Quick edit panel(toggle edges, add/remove points, replace points, filler surface)
- Mid-surface,
- 2D auto-mesh using mixed components,
- Project
- Defeature,
- Temp nodes,
- Smooth,
- Mask.
Procedure followed:-
- Import the original geometry
- The first and the foremost job after importing the geometry is that to check whether there are any discrepancies in the model. Cleanup the geometry if required.
- Now extract the mid-surface of the obtained component.
- Again geometry cleanup is required for proper mesh, also the holes with less than and equal to 5 mm are to be neglected/filled using filler surface command.
- Post cleanup mesh the part individually for obtaining the proper mesh.
- Check for quality criteria for elements so that the element size is not more than 7 mm and not less than 3.5 mm as per required criteria.
- Assign property and thickness to the component as per the original component. In our model the thickness to be assigned is 0.91 mm.
Conclusion:-
The final meshed surface obtained is attached below.
PART 2

Procedure followed:-
- Import the original geometry, and perform geometry cleanup. Extract the mid-surface of the obtained component.
- Again geometry cleanup is required for proper mesh, also the holes with less than and equal to 5 mm are to be neglected/filled using filler surface command.
- The circle left because the diameter is 20 mm.
- Perform geometry cleanup again like replace points, toggling edges if required to obtain a cleaner mesh.
- 2D Meshing each part of the component individually so that a fine mesh can be performed.
- Final meshed component without any quality criteria deviation or a cleaner mesh which have a fine quality criteria.
- Assign property and also thickness to the component. In our model the thickness is assigned as 2 mm.
Conclusion:-
The final mesh obtained is as below satisfying all the quality criteria.
PART 3
Objective:-
To perform various preprocessing activities to the given component using geometry cleanup, mid-surface, 2D meshing and elemental cleanup, and finally assigning the property and thickness to component as per the quality criteria.
Target element size- 5 mm
Minimum element size – 3.5 mm
Maximum element size – 7mm

- Project
- Defeature,
- Temp nodes,
- Smooth,
- Mask.
Procedure followed:-
- Import the original geometry
- Cleanup the geometry if required.
- Mid-surfacing is the next step after cleaning up the geometry.
- Cleaning up the geometry again for better mesh of the final component.
- Mesh part individually. Post meshing assign property and thickness to the model. In our model the thickness of the parent component is 1.8 so assigning the thickness as 1.8.
Conclusion:-
The final component with mesh obtained is attached below, satisfying all the quality criteria.
